that I have both of you, and are perfectly fine with this.”
“Trust me, we are more than fine with the situation. Actually, we have never been happier.” I feel nothing but relief from what Conner says.
“Where is Isaac, by the way?” I ask him.
“Probably on the phone. That man loves to argue,” Conner says, laughing.
“Are you going to tell me what last night was about?” I am very curious to see if he will; Conner seems to be the open book type.
“I wish I could tell you, Riley.” He sighs then says, “It would only cause you harm and possibly hurt the ones you love.”
“I don’t understand. Are you and Isaac in some sort of trouble?”
“We are handling it. Please, Riley, just let this one go.” I do as he says, but only for now. I am going to get to the bottom of whatever this is.
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Sure, Riley, you can ask me anything”.
Okay, here it goes. “The other night, when we….you know.”
“You mean when we slept together?” he finishes for me.
“Yes. I was wondering, why didn’t you use a condom?” I have been dying to know why he didn’t even bother bringing one.
“Isaac told me after the first time he slept with you that you couldn’t get pregnant. Was I out of line to assume it was okay?”
“No it’s fine, I was just simply curious.”
“The thing is, Riley, Isaac and I learned a long time ago not to keep anything from each other. No secrets. Ever.” I understand that logic completely.
I’m getting out of bed when Conner catches me off-guard by asking, “Who is Robert?”
“How do you know about him?” I’m worried now. I’m not ready to talk about him just yet.
“You said his name in your sleep last night. A few times actually. Is he your lover as well?” I try not to get angry at his statement, but some things you just can’t control.
“For your information, he was my lover. I married him, and he broke my heart and a lot of other shit. Is that what you were looking for? What do you think I am? Just some cheap whore who fucks everyone?” I can tell I shocked him.
    “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize...”
“Well, maybe next time before assuming you know, just ask.” I walk out of the room, going straight to the bathroom. I slam the door, making sure both of them know not to bother me. I decide to take a long hot bath. I need to calm down before I see either one of them again.
About an hour later, I hear a knock at the door. “Riley? It’s Isaac…Can I come in, please?” I am just getting out so I open the door for him.
“Is everything all right? Conner said he upset you.”
“I’m fine, he just brought up some things from my past that I’m not quite ready to face.” I know he can tell I am still upset, so he does the best thing a man can ever do.
“Riley, I just want you to know that I— I mean—Conner and I are here for you. No matter what you need, we are both here if you need anything.”
“Thank you for that,” I say to him. He walks over to me, wrapping his arms around me, pulling me close to him. I can smell his cologne; it’s sweet and spicy mixed in with a masculine after smell. He feels so good holding me, caressing me. He makes sure I’m okay with all this.
“Come, let’s go find Conner. We would like to cook for you tonight, maybe hang out by the pool?”
    “That sounds amazing,” I respond.
We spend the afternoon outside by the pool, eating grilled steaks, playing with each other like we were kids again. We spend hours talking about anything and everything we can think of. It is very nice to actually get to know my boys. They tell me they met in college; their friendship a bond I can’t really understand. I know they somehow complete each other. Even though they both grew up in Tampa, Florida, it’s odd they never met until years later. They both smile and laugh when they retell stories of their college days. I’m so very happy with this side of them. They are so carefree and loving
