her eyes, she saw the whole bloody Milky Way.
She was so inside her head, thinking through everything, she
didn’t hear Conan come back into the room until he swung her up into his arms
and held her against his wet body. Little droplets of water dripped over his
pecs.
“You think too much, little one.” With that he carried her
to the shower and under the warm water. As the water streamed over them she
forgot all about the worries and things to come.

A little over an hour later, after another bout of
lovemaking in the shower, they emerged from their bedroom. Conan had explained
that everything that was once his was now theirs. It gave Josie something else
to worry about, but she didn’t let on.
Cassie, who had been sitting on the brown leather couch in
the living room, rose and knelt before the couple as they walked past her toward
the kitchen.
“Congratulations on your mating, Alpha. Welcome to the pack,
Josie,” she murmured, keeping her head in place, then she slowly exposed her
neck. She didn’t exactly sound very pleased about it, but then Josie didn’t
think she would be anyway.
“Thank you, Cassie,” Conan grunted out. “I hope that all you
smashed has been cleaned up and will be replaced,” he growled.
Still kneeling before them, Cassie nodded, lowering her head
as if defeated.
Wanting to make a quick escape away from the tense situation,
Josie walked to the kitchen. Her heart skipped a beat thinking about everything
that had happened. Oh my God, she’d had sex—all night sex—with a fucking hot
man with a six-pack and a firm arse you could bounce a penny on.
Her . Little five feet, dumpy, overweight Josie! Not
only had she had all-night sex with a sexy man but he was a wolf shifter and
she had mated him. She stood still, shock hitting her in waves. Holy crap!
“Josie?” Conan’s voice came from behind her as his hands
wrapped around her waist.
She turned in his arms, eyes as wide as saucers. “Holy crap!
What happens now? What have I done? What if he comes looking for me? Shit,
you’re a shifter and—” She didn’t have time to ramble on any further, because
his lips firmly pressed against hers, kissing her deeply, and her mind went
instantly blank.
When they parted, she stared up into his sparkling blue eyes,
suddenly calm, her lips still tingling from his kiss.
“Sorry,” she said, heat rising in her face.
“One day at a time, right?” he said, his eyes twinkling with
amusement. “The first thing on the list today is the office. If we didn’t have
needy patients, we could take the day off, but alas, we do. So come on, let’s
go to work and see how things go.”
Still looking up at him, she smiled and breathed him in
deep, letting go of the worries and stresses for a little while as she relaxed
in his arms.

As the days went on, Cassie showed her dislike toward Josie
more and more, but only when Conan wasn’t around. It was getting on her nerves.
In fact, by the time Friday arrived Josie was getting so fucking fed up she was
growling back out of habit.
After Josie and Conan spent some time moving what little she
had into the cabin they enjoyed a drink and meal with Randale, Conan’s brother.
Josie found it very hard not to laugh around the bloke. Although he had a
serious side, he also had a comical side too. She could see sadness in his eyes
as well sometimes, and she wondered what gave him that look.
After being told of their Alpha’s mating, the pack began to
visit. It had turned into a full shift-and-run one night after so many had
turned up. She had sat on the bench, meeting each of their wolves, loving the
fact many of them were different colors, but more so that she was accepted.
Conan had promised on the next full moon that they would have a ceremony and
full get-together. It gave them a few weeks to get to know their female Alpha.
Josie fell in love with the pups that came over to visit
most nights, much to Conan’s irritation. He wanted
