bit louder.
"No I wasn't!" He said raising his voice to match mines.
I lowered my voice. "Well, if you have to know, I had surgery for my appendix, then something went wrong and I had a second surgery."
"Are you alright?" he asked.
"See you are worried." I said looking into his eyes. His eyes were amazing they went on forever. They were blocked though. As if he had his wall around himself.
"No, I'm not."
"You are so frustrating!" I screamed.
"Why can't you just say how you feel? Why can't you trust anyone?"
"Who says I can't trust? I trust some people."
"But not me," I said quietly. He stayed silent.
"Why though?" I couldn’t help but ask.
He sat down on my porch steps and looked up at me "It's my dad, he wasn't the preppiest guy on the block, he loved rock, black, and all that, and he was so cool, cool enough to catch the attention of the head cheerleader."
"They were high school sweethearts?"
"Yeah."
“That is so cute!" I said with a smile.
"But she cheated on him with some jerk before he died. We were all stressed and angry, but she had no right."
I slowly sat down. I winced at the pain.
"Just because your mom did that doesn't mean that she didn't love your dad. It could have been a mistake."
"Maybe, but she meant the world to my dad, and maybe they were just too different and I don't..." He looked at me. He looked so sad, so perfect to me right now.
"You don't want that to happen to you." I finished for him. He nodded. I nodded in response. I looked around while I chose my words.
"The thing is that your dad was happy and in love, don't you want that?" I looked at him and waited for his response.
"Yes but," he drifted off.
"You're afraid," I assumed, " but if you don't take a chance you're going to die, unlike your dad, miserable and lonely."
"You're right," he sighed.
I smiled I'm actually getting through to him. He no longer had a wall around himself and I could tell he was nervous. He looked around for a few minutes, then faced me and asked,
"So, do you want to go out sometime?"

Chapter 13

    Anastasia
"Really?" I asked amazed; this can't be happening. Am I dreaming?
"Yes really," he said smiling at me.
"Yes of course, but-"
"But what?" He asked getting nervous again.
"I hate to ruin the moment and I hope this doesn't offend you, but I don't really want to tell my friends about this." I said looking down at my feet.
"Why not?" He asked making me look back at him.
"Because it will be useless, I wont be able to find the right words at the moment and they won’t get it."
"I feel the same way," he said relieved.
"So I guess I really am your dirty little secret, huh?"
"You remembered that?" He asked.
I giggled since laughing hard kind of hurt, "yeah."
He threw his head back and laughed.
I was thrilled that we were actually talking and about us! I think I may faint! My cheeks started to hurt from smiling so hard, but I couldn't help it. I'm happier than I was the time I got my first credit card, and that was big for me.
"Yeah I think so too," he smiled at me. I examined it, memorizing it since his smiles are so rare.
"You have a great smile." I said after I memorizing his whole expression.
"Thanks, but there's no way I beat you."
I rolled my eyes.
"Cheesy comments, keep up the good work," he laughed.
"What? You don't like that?"
I shook my head, "I never said that."
"I know, hey when is your birthday? And favorite food, place, and color? Cause you know, I have to know this stuff."
I giggled slightly wincing at the pain. He noticed.
"Are you okay?"
I smiled at him, "I am it’s just recovery pain."
"Are you sure?"
"Mhm, and it's November 30th."
"The last day of the month cool." He said he smiled, but I could tell he was still worried.
"That's so cute, but you really don't have to worry."
"Okay."
"So, what are you going to do for your birthday?"
"I don't know, I guess a party. Maybe a masquerade party, that way everyone will be wearing masks and you can
