couldn’t comprehend and forcing vampires to go into hiding. As the centuries went on, many went back to old ways, ancient ways and began to feed on humans.
From the time Royce became an immortal he always did what he thought was right. He lived with human women and aided humans against his own kind. He despised needless death and killing.
The making of a vampire was as old as time. A newborn vampire was drained of blood until their hearts almost stopped allowing them to transition, body and soul reawakening Nosferatu. Now the government controlled it. It was safer to monitor those who’d requested to give up their humanity. Well that’s at least how it was supposed to work but it didn’t always. What everyone forgot was how ravenous a newborn was, how they craved blood and sex twenty-four seven for months. So now, it had become a crime for both the vampire and the human when the transition wasn’t monitored.
There was a huge and unique underground network, revenue in the millions of dollars, offering immortality for a price. He parked his car in Beth Ann’s garage and locked it with his remote key. She had some important information for him and she sounded urgent.
He buzzed in, “Hey baby,” he said.
“Royce hi,” she said as her buzzer sounded. He opened the door to the lobby of her apartment building and headed for the elevator. Her voice echoed in his head, he could feel her emotions and Beth Ann was extremely emotional at the moment. Christ, he thought, what the hell was going on. He hated to see her upset. She could handle hardened criminals with the utmost dignity and finesse. She never became rattled or undone. The tone of her voice just now was a dead giveaway that something was definitely amiss.
He stepped out of the elevator quickly, anxious to see what was going on. He didn’t have to wait long the door to her apartment was already open and waiting for him. He was at her door with vampire haste and sorry he rushed. Beth Ann stood with her arms akimbo next to a beautiful young woman sitting on her white leather couch. Royce frowned, how the hell did Lucinda find out where Beth Ann lived. He hadn’t spoken to her in over two years, though he knew where she was at all times, this was the curse of a vampire and his prodigies. He also forgot how resourceful vampires were finding Beth Ann, he was sure was a piece of cake for Lucinda.

Chapter Eleven
“Why look who it is, my favorite vampire,” Lucinda said smiling brilliantly.
Beth Ann tapped her foot on the wooden floor. “And the reason you won’t change me?”
He stood before them and grinned. “Well look who it is, my wayward child. What brings you out of hiding?” he said ignoring Beth Ann, which he knew would agitate her further, but it was unavoidable. Lucinda was part of him and he hated to admit he was more than happy to see her.
Lucinda rose from the couch, her beauty stunning as always. Her fluid motion as she came to him was a thing of splendor. His peripheral vision caught the look of horror and surprise on Beth Ann’s face. He couldn’t blame her, each time she begged him to turn her, to make her an immortal he denied her. Now Lucinda turns up, one of his very own prodigies. Yeah, she was livid and that bothered him. “This could only mean you need something Lucinda.”
“Yes, my Lord I need your help.”
Beth Ann’s eyes widened. “My, Lord, did you just call him my Lord?”
Lucinda turned to her and raised an eyebrow. “Could you please tell this heifer to shut up,” Lucinda purred.
Shit, Royce, thought, here we fucking go. He had to admit it had been peaceful the last forty or so years without all the bickering between them. With modern times came women’s liberation and his female vampires were no exception. Although it took one stern thought from him to calm them down, bedlam still existed when they got all riled up.
“Lucinda behave!” He raised his voice and she bared her fangs. Beth Ann now
