human is still alive, they’re useless if the human dies.”
“Well that does help me and the NYPD, the spike the last few months had to have an explanation, but all leads were very closed mouth,” he said holding Beth Ann close trying to absorb her fear. “Where is Jared now?”
“He’s waiting in the car. I wasn’t sure how you would take to another alpha male here and near your female,” Lucinda said grinning.
He turned to Beth Ann. “Baby pack a few things you’re coming to stay with me. Lucinda, you and Jared at my place. I need to get as much information from him as possible,” he paused. “Have you heard from Magenta and Dahlia?”
Lucinda tried to look away from him but knew that was in vain, he could still read her mind. “Dahlia is alone and Magenta has been with one human male after another. However, she’s been discreet. I do believe they’ve assimilated themselves into human society nicely. It is after all the twenty-first century,” she said forcing a grin.
Royce had a brownstone in Brooklyn and he lived there alone. It had three stories and Beth Ann had just finished decorating the main floor for him. She already had the essentials there since she stayed over often enough. Lucinda and her warlock boyfriend might be a windfall for him and the city. He had the room but he’d needed to find out exactly what was going down, if he was going to help them and protect his sorry magical ass.
“Here’s a key to my place,” he said taking a key off his keychain. “You know exactly where it is,” he said as he let her search his mind.
She smiled. “I can still see your thoughts,” she said.
“Yes, only because I’m letting you. Now get over there as quickly as possible.” He grabbed Lucinda and kissed her deeply. It was no brotherly kiss, far from it. It was one filled with hunger and desire. But he did get a hint of something else from her. An emotion? He pushed her away from him and his look quizzical and questioning. They had much to talk over.
She moved as quickly as he did when needed and was gone in a flash leaving him to stand before Beth Ann. “Are you okay?” he asked her.
“No, I’m not okay. I’m scared, disillusioned and really pissed off at you,” she said and he saw how hard she tried to hold back tears.
    “Beth Ann, I…”
She came into his arms. “I love you because you’re a good man−no hear me out,” she said looking up at him. He shook his head and began to open his mouth, but she put two of her fingers over his lips. “I love you Royce Bellamy because you stand up for your convictions and you have made the decision to help humanity not destroy it. As non-humans came out, appeared and made themselves known it was been a transitioning world. Chaos did reign for a while, my parents told me. Then, the humanity in each creature found its way to the surface then peace and understanding took hold. Funny how the old haunts, old prejudices disappeared and new ones came to the surface. I do believe the world is a better place now that we are all out in the open. My generation only knows the diversity we have here living on this planet. The genius that we now have to work with to better humanity, I’d have it no other way. I love you and I’d have that no other way. It tears me apart knowing you can never return that love, but that you still chose to be with me.” Now she let the tears run down her cheeks.
Again a heaviness in his chest, so unfamiliar, yet it was there. Her tears unnerved him, they always did, because she shed them so infrequently. Beth Ann was a strong intelligent woman and his draw to her was undeniable. At that moment, he wanted to make love to her.
“I need you Beth Ann, I need to fuck you.”
She molded her body to his and took his lips to hers. His hands came to her head and he gently pushed her face to his so he could devour her mouth.
“Royce please take me. Change me. Make me yours, tonight. If you can’t love me then at least
