ancient speed by the standards he was used to, and allowed it to fix the bugs causing the sluggishness.
Once the necessary repairs were made, he went onto something called the Internet and pulled up the files from the year 2000 to the present year and started reading, utilizing a spell to help him absorb the information at a higher rate. Using his magic, Tiaki made the documents flash across the screen as fast as he could make the computer run. A human wouldn’t have been able to read them, but as a Rift Hunter, one of the first things he’d learned was how to use his magic to absorb knowledge at a rapid rate.
He stopped on the most recent file from a local newspaper. The year said 2513.
Tiaki’s eyes widened. Five hundred years! How the hell had the rift pulled him so far into Earth’s future?
He stared at the screen, shock crashing over his senses, then froze when he felt a sharp point pressed against the back of his neck. Fuck! He’d been so stunned by what he’d discovered, he hadn’t realized someone had entered the room.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Kiana’s sultry voice caressed the air close to his ear. Then she said in a louder voice, “I’ve got it, Ash. It’s the Hunter. I’ll take him back to his cell.”
Tiaki shuddered. The sound of her voice caused his magic to reach a boiling point he’d never felt before. He closed his eyes and forced his magic to a low simmer. “I’m learning what has happened in the last 500 years, because I need to find a way home. If you’ll lower the knife, I’ll return to my cell.” He winced at the tightness of his voice as he tried to control the barely leashed desire raging inside him. He focused on what he’d learned from their archives to tamp down his spiraling sexual need. It looked like he needed to get to this NASA’s headquarters on the mainland to contact the Citadel. According to what he’d read in the archives, NASA was the agency of the US government responsible for the nation’s civilian space program. It seemed like the best place to try to send a message from. The Ternion was going to be livid when he informed them of the Syndicate’s activities. Even he could hardly believe some of the stuff he’d read.
Tiaki stiffened when he felt Kiana’s hand waver, causing the knife to slip. A sharp sting slid across his senses. She’d drawn blood.
“You won’t be taking him anywhere, Kiana.”
He heard the knife clatter to the floor. Tiaki spun around in his chair.
Mateo stood in the doorway, a dangerous glint flashing in his eyes. He stepped into the room and closed the door behind him.
Tiaki couldn’t decide if he saw more lust or denial in the other man’s eyes. But Tiaki felt the exact moment his magic broke free of the cage he’d shoved it into when he’d heard Kiana’s voice.
Mateo flicked his gaze to Tiaki. “Don’t move, or you’ll regret it.” Then he advanced on Kiana and stopped in front of her. He grabbed her shoulders and turned her so that she faced Tiaki. Brushing her hair away from her neck, he touched a darkened spot on her neck. “She belongs to me, Hunter. She’s my mate. Not anyone else’s. Stay the hell away from her.” He forced her to turn her head and captured her lips.
Tiaki watched as Mateo thrust his tongue inside Kiana’s mouth, urging her to respond to his kiss as he moved his hand to the opening of her camouflage uniform top. When he saw Mateo’s fingers begin to work the buttons free, his cock tightened. He found himself silently encouraging Mateo to expose more of Kiana’s passion-flushed skin to his hungry eyes.
Kiana moaned and thrust her chest forward as though begging for him or Mateo to take possession of her breasts. Or maybe both of them.
In a passion-filled daze, Tiaki stood and closed the distance between him and his soul mates. His magic demanded he reach out and touch them, on whatever level he could. His breathing became ragged as he pushed Mateo’s hand away
