here’s what we’re gonna do, you remember Pop Culture TV wanted to do a reality style show?”

    Luke nodded.

“Well,” Harry said, grinning, we’re gonna film their little festival. They want a crowd? We’ll give them a crowd, they’ll be lucky if the shoreline doesn’t sink under the weight.”

Chapter 2

“The buses are here, the buses are here!!” Chelle shrieked.

“Right on time,” Lilly muttered. Ok, she thought to herself, cheer up, off to a good start, right? Somehow she had a feeling that none of this was going to go as planned, and that holding to this contract was going to bite her in the ass. Hard. A wannabe rocker who is sexy as hell, a small town that needs him, and a concert he doesn’t want to play, what could possibly go wrong?

Lilly walked from her office outside, and down the stairs to greet the crew. The interns “apprentices” in theater talk, were milling about and ready to help. The bus was backed up to the loading dock and Luke’s crew was already at work loading in. So far, so good. And then it happened, a cameraman backed into her.

“What the…? Hellooooo? Watch where you’re going! What the hell? Why are you filming load in?”

“For the show lady, can you step aside?”

    “Um, sure?”

Harry walked up and stuck out his hand, looking up at her he squinted behind is glasses, “I see you’ve met the film crew?”

“So, uh, yeah, about that, what’s up with a film crew?”

“Reality TV, we’re filming the whole thing for a special, Lucifer at the Lake, it’s gonna be huge!”

    “Um, no you’re not.”

“We are, though. I checked, your town has no ordinances or permits or anything required for filming, we don’t even have to ask.”

Lilly winced. That was probably true, no one had ever once thought a film crew would turn up, she was pretty sure.

“Well, you should at least talk to the mayor,” she said as a camera circled her head, “this is not going to go over well in town with some of the powers that be.”

“Where’s Lu…,” Lilly stopped mid-sentence. Because there he was. Shirtless. His muscles rippled beneath his skin, and his low slung jeans provided a glimpse of the sharply carved V that led to…she knew she was staring and she couldn’t help it. He had turned her inside out on the phone for God’s sake, seeing him like this, cut like marble walking toward her was doing something to her brain. Turning it to jelly would be her first guess, since she seemed to have lost the capacity to speak. It was doing something to several other parts of her too. His hair was damp, maybe he had just gotten up and showered. The idea of him in the shower…this was not helping. Think of something else, she commanded herself, like, baseball, or no not something with balls-dammit, hedge hogs or porcupines…

“Hey,” Luke said reaching out to shake her hand.

“Hi Luke,” that was about all she could manage right now. His hand was warm and soft in hers, and as he slowly slid it away, the telltale callouses of guitar playing scratched at her palms. The heat from his touch ran up her arm and wrapped around her, causing her to blush. Great, because she had really wanted to re-live those awkward middle school years again.

Lilly shook her head as if to clear it and remembered she was supposed to be annoyed because of the TV crew. “So what’s up with the cameras Luke? Did I forget about something?”

Luke laughed, a deep throaty sexy sound that Lilly imagined would be amazing coming from the pillow next to hers, “Harry cooked it up, trying to make up for the money we’re losing by being here.”

“Oh, ‘cause I’m not sure the town is big enough for you, and your buses and your camera crew.”

“Well we’re signed so nothing to be done for it now. I’m going to finish getting dressed then take a look around at your theater, see what we can do with the place. Nice to see you again,
