wished she could always be this happy. “We’ll see. I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet.”
She sat up and poked him in the side. “Even if you stay, that doesn’t mean you have to be here all the time. You can still stay with your boyfriend sometimes too.”
Landon rolled his eyes at her. Shanen was just like their mom in some ways. She’d never give up on this Rod thing now.
    “He’s not my boyfriend.”
“You can have one, you know?”
He nodded. “I know.” But did he really? Shanen believed that, but Landon was pretty sure he didn’t.
“You can bring your boyfriend to the wedding too, if you want.”
His first thought was that Rod would like Shanen. They’d get along well. Both his mom and Shanen would like Rod. “Shut up.”
Shanen winked at him. The people in his life were going to drive him crazy.
When she left, Landon found himself deleting the app from his phone, but refused to let himself think about why.
    ***
“Just so I can get this straight, we’re not going on a date, right?” Rod asked when Landon showed up at his house on the Fourth of July. He knew this wasn’t a date, but he loved giving Landon a hard time. When he dropped his head back and looked up at the sky, Rod knew he’d hit his target.
    “Nope, not a date.”
“So we’re just two gay guys, spending the day together on your bike, and then watching fireworks?”
Landon groaned before tossing the helmet to him. “Put this on and shut up.”
“Whatever you say, sir. Ooh, that’s kinky. I’ve always wanted to try and role-play that master/boy stuff. What do you think? Want to order me around? Make me strip for you?”
He could see Landon trying to bite back a smile, which was exactly what he’d wanted. Landon had seemed a little down lately. Rod knew if he asked, he wouldn’t say why, so he decided just to try and cheer him up instead. “You can tell me to get on my knees and suck your cock. I’d do it for no other reason than to experience the sub fantasy.”
Landon grabbed his own helmet off the bike, and unlatched the straps. “Oh you would, huh? Sounds like a real hardship.”
“No one said life was easy.”
“Shut up and put the helmet on, boy .”
Heat shot through his body. “Oh fuck. That was actually kind of hot. Huh. Who knew? Maybe next time I go out I’ll look for a guy who wants to order me around.”
Landon’s jaw tightened in an unfamiliar way. “No. Don’t do that.”
    “Why?”
“Because.” He fiddled with the straps on his helmet. “Just because.”
    “Just because?”
    “Can we go?”
Rod would much rather find out what that because was about. He stood there without a word, and it only took a few seconds for Landon to groan again. He obviously knew Rod well and knew he wasn’t going to let this go. “Because there are a lot of creeps out there. That’s not the kind of thing you just look for with some random guy at a club, or on an app.”
Well shit. That wasn’t the response he wanted. “You don’t think I can take care of myself? I’m not stupid.”
Landon looked at him with puzzled eyes as if he really did suddenly think Rod was dumb. “I never said you were stupid or that I think you can’t take care of yourself. You’re obviously doing a fine job of that. I just don’t think it’s smart to play around with that shit unless you’re experienced. That’s all. You don’t need some random asshole to tell you to get on your knees for him. You’re better than that—and before you say anything, it’s not because I give a shit that it’s a hook up. Hell, everyone I’ve ever fucked has just been a hook up, so I’m not anti-fucking who you want. I’m not anti Dom/sub either. I just…just don’t do it.”
It was obvious the conversation was over when Landon pulled his black and orange helmet over his head. He strapped it without a word and Rod stood there watching him.
    You’re better than that. I just…just don’t do it.
    He wasn’t sure that
