like a direct lick to the tip of his cock. Memories flooded him and he fought them with every fiber of his being. “I’ve come up with what I think is a unique idea. Lauren and Maddie both said they would help back it as well. Write-offs for all three of us, a dream come true for you.”
He smiled at her last statement. She knew him too well. “So tell me your idea.”
Brittney propped her elbow on the arm of her chair, twisted her hands together in her lap. “Well, it’ll be a temporary home for children instead of placing them into a foster
home. A place for kids to go when their parents or guardians get thrown in jail, or put into rehab, or even the hospital and they have no one to take care of them. All of it on a very short-term, temporary basis to rid the need of some children going into the foster care system.”
“Interesting idea.” It was. He liked the sound of it, had been disappointed in the past with the things he heard about the foster care system.
Her eyes lit up and she smiled. “You really think so? It would be for those children who just need a short-term place to stay, somewhere comfortable for them since it’s such a scary time in their lives. Displacement is so hard on a young child, even more on a teenager, and if we can offer them a warm, comforting environment for at least a few days, it would ease their fears. Make them feel wanted, cared for.”
“We’ll need to figure out how much this is going to cost. Prepare the necessary paperwork, make sure we’re doing everything properly. We need to make sure we’re setting everything up according to any government regulations that are in place. Then we’ll have to find property, even other local corporations to help fund it.” He wondered at her motives for the home, detected something in her voice when she spoke about it. Like maybe she had first-hand knowledge or something.
    It piqued his curiosity.
“I know. Maddie mentioned you could probably budget the entire project out, let us know what’s realistic, what’s not.”
“I definitely could. I’ll need more details, a list of exactly what you three want. Then give me a couple of weeks and I’ll come up with something tentative that would let us know what kind of figures, barriers, time lines we’re dealing with.”
She reached into her big expensive bag and pulled out a thin folder, then leaned over to hand it to him. Allowing him a view of her cleavage and even a peek of her lacy camisole. His cock hardened even more.
“In there are some ideas I came up with. I drew up a few sketches. I’ve been working on this project for a while. Doing this is like a dream come true.” Her cheeks colored and she appeared embarrassed. Odd. “You can read it, incorporate what you can into your
forecast. And if you have any questions, you could always call me. I’d be thrilled to discuss this further.”
He nodded, didn’t know what to say. He could see the enthusiastic sparkle in her eyes, the tense way she held her body.
Brittney grabbed her purse and stood, her expression earnest. “I’m so glad you believe in my idea, Charlie. Thanks for helping. It means a lot to me.”
“Of course.” He stood as well, came around his desk to stand before her. “It’s my job.”
“I don’t think you’re helping me out just because it’s your job.” She smiled tremulously. “I hope we’ve come to be more than that after everything that has…happened. I’d like to consider you a friend.”
Charlie sighed, ran his hand through his hair. “Yeah, Brittney, I wanted to apologize for the way things have happened between us. To be honest, I’ve acted like an out-of-control asshole.”
She laughed and shook her head, taking a step closer. “Don’t apologize. Please. We can just pretend it never happened, that’s what usually works for me. I don’t do relationships, Charlie. What we had was fun, but we can end it now if you want. It’s probably best.”
    “Right, it’s
