child.â
âShe has all the makings of a woman, thatâs for sure. What about Bernice? Sheâs not a child,â Tayler added with a playful smile.
Rollin took a deep breath and stroked his goatee. Every time he struck a pose she got a tingle in the pit of her stomach. Damn, heâs fine.
Rollin started rearranging the baskets of pears. âCan we change the subject?â he asked without looking at Tayler.
Two women walked by with broad smiles and waved. âHi, Rollin.â
He gave them a quick nod. âMorninâ, ladies.â
Tayler crossed her arms and laughed. âYeah, I can see it now. You smile at them with those big dimples of yours and you can have any woman in town.â
He shook his head and laughed. âMy day starts at five a.m. and usually doesnât end until after dinner. I donât have time for a woman right now. My business is my lady.â
âSure it is.â
âBesides,â Rollin continued, âIâm trying to get into some bigger markets, like Whole Foods.â
Tayler nodded. âThen you wonât have to stand out here selling at a farmersâ market, huh?â
âI donât have to be out here now, Kevin can handle this. But I enjoy talking to people who eat our produce to see what they have to say. Itâs my market research. I bring food to the people. Not everyone wants to come out and pick their own food.â
She held up her hand. âAmen.â
A few more customers stopped by to purchase vegetables. Once everyone left, Tayler picked their conversation right back up.
âSo, why canât you get into Whole Foods?â
âItâs a long story, but basically we need more money to expand in order to meet their demand. Holding onto the land and the B and B takes a lot of money.â
âDid you ever think about selling it all and leaving Danville?â
âNever. This is home. I came back here after college, and I donât ever plan on leaving. Itâs a nice town.â
âLooks like it.â
âIâll tell you what, after we leave I can give you the grand tour. Iâll show you my town, and then youâll see why I love it so much.â
She smiled. âSure.â
âWell, if it isnât Tayler Carter.â
Tayler and Rollin turned around as Officer Greg approached the table.
âSo, we meet again.â He extended his hand. âGood morning.â
âGood morning, Officer Greg.â Tayler accepted his hand.
âPlease, call me Greg.â
âWhatâs up, man?â Rollin reached out to shake Gregâs hand.
âNothing much. I saw you guys over here and thought Iâd say hello and see if Tayler is up for that tour I promised her.â
Tayler and Rollin exchanged glances.
Chapter 7
T ayler turned to Greg, then back to Rollin, and waited on him to say somethingâanything.
âUnless youâve already been on a tour, as part of your stay at the B and B,â Greg said, looking from Tayler to Rollin.
Rollin shook his head. âNope, not part of the package.â
She couldnât believe Rollin was going to leave her hanging out there like that. âActually, Greg, Iâm kinda busy today.â
Greg took a step back and then picked up a pear to examine it. âYeah, I see theyâve put you to work. Rollin, I didnât know things were so bad youâd put the guest to work,â he said.
Rollin crossed his arms. âWho said things were bad at all?â he asked.
Tayler heard a hint of annoyance creep into Rollinâs voice.
Greg placed the pear back on the stack. âWell, I heard youâve had a lot of vacancies. And with school about to start back, youâll probably lose some of your workforce.â
âI donât know where you heard that. Weâre doing okay. Iâll lose two guys when school starts, but thatâs all. And Taylerââ
He glanced over at her, and
