predatory hiss.
At moment later, Ashlock’s mind slammed into his and it was similar to when they’d mated in the wolf way, except more…just more. He could feel the very essence of himself twisting around Ashlock until they formed an unbreakable rope between them, tying them together. Instinctively he knew that if Ashlock were to die he would follow, not some time later from grief, but in the same instant, because his life and Ashlock’s were one of the same now.
Zeke’s mind blanked out and darkness reigned.
“Zeke?”
The peaceful comfort around him faded away as he heard Ashlock calling his name.
“Zeke, please wake up. Show me those beautiful hazel eyes and tell me you’re okay,” Ashlock pleaded, fingers brushing through his hair.
Zeke opened his eye with a moan, flinching at the brightness as he found himself back up on the table, lying flat and looking up at Ashlock, who was leaning over him wearing a worried frown. With smears of blood around his mouth and his eyes still glowing red, Ashlock looked every bit the vampire he was, but Zeke saw past that to his mate underneath.
“Hey, that was fun,” he said, giving Ashlock a grin. He reached up to wind a hand around the back of Ashlock’s neck and pulled him down for a kiss. The kiss was light and gentle, and Zeke gloried in the warmth that spread through the bond. He could feel Ashlock inside his mind, like the vampire was a very part of his soul.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I’m fine. Better than, in fact. Can’t you feel?” Zeke mentally twanged the psychic rope connecting them. He received a faint smile for that and Ashlock let him pull him in for another kiss. This time Zeke felt a little playful and licked Ashlock’s fangs, tasting himself as the sharp teeth nicked him.
Breaking the kiss with a pained cry, Ashlock stumbled back and caught himself on the desk. Zeke heard the metal groan in protest and saw finger dents in the surface when Ashlock let go. He rolled off the table and landed on his feet, moving to steady his mate, gripping his shoulders.
“What’s wrong?”
“Oh God, I can feel it starting again. We need to get home or we’ll destroy the shop,” Ashlock said, arms coming around himself to hug his middle. Zeke didn’t even pause to think. He urged Ashlock out of the shop’s back entrance and bundled him into the car, not caring that he was naked and Ashlock’s clothes were still hanging in tatters. He grabbed the emergency phone from the glove compartment and texted Remy a warning to get home in case it hit him as hard as it had Ashlock. The intensity could be a vampire thing, but maybe it wasn’t. He also sent a brief message to Frenchie apologising and saying that he and Ashlock would pay to have that back room refurbished and the equipment replaced also adding not to get rid of the broken stuff. He wanted that table.
Ashlock cried out, writhing against the seat, eyes glowing. A quick glance down confirmed Ashlock’s cock was back to readiness and leaking as if they hadn’t just shaken the earth minutes before.
“It’s okay, baby. We’re going now. Just hold on until we get to the coven house and you can have me any way you want me,” he promised, turning the engine over and revving the truck to life. He put pedal to the metal and raced out of the parking lot.
Chapter Five
Remy
Remy fished his phone out of his pocket when he heard the text alert. “Hey, Zeke just text me saying that we better get home quick. Seems like the serum hit them hard.”
His mate immediately opened the wooden door to the changing room wide enough to pop his face out. They were in a private fitting area, but Skylar had insisted that he’d change in the small sectioned off cubical so Remy could have the full effect of each outfit. “They okay?”
“It sounds like it,” he answered, pressing a few buttons to bring up the location of his brother’s phone. The coven. “Whatever happened, they’re
