whispered
    again.
He turned and disappeared down the hallway before she could tell him to go
    upstairs instead.
Her heart still beat erratically but she pasted a smile on her face and pulled the door
open. After all, she was a grown woman. It didn’t matter who she slept with. “Hey,
    Grandma.”
Her grandmother smiled and kissed her on the cheek. “Hi, sweetie. I’m about to go
meet some of the girls for breakfast but I wanted to let you know I saw a big dog
running around the yard earlier so be careful. It looks dangerous.”

    “What kind of dog?”
“I don’t know, but it was gray and white and almost looked like a wolf.”
A shiver snaked down Carly’s spine. “Thanks for letting me know.”
“Are you still having dinner with me tonight?”
    Crap. She’d completely forgotten. “Uh—”
“If you already have plans, don’t worry. Mr. Lancaster asked me out to dinner but I
told him I’d have to check with you first.”
She placed a hand on her hip. “Who’s Mr. Lancaster?”
Her grandmother mimicked her and lifted a haughty eyebrow. “Whose car is
    parked in the driveway?”
Carly’s cheeks heated under her grandmother’s knowing stare. “I’ll come by later
this afternoon, I promise,” she mumbled.
“Don’t bother, I’ll probably be out. If you get a chance though, walk on over
tomorrow for breakfast. Bring your friend if you want,” she snickered before giving her
    another peck on the cheek.
Forget retirement, her grandmother had more of a social life than Carly did. After a
quick glance around the yard, she shut and locked the front door.
When she returned to the kitchen she found Nick sitting at the kitchen table eating
a bagel. She was disappointed to find him wearing boxers.
“Is everything okay?” he asked in between bites.
She took a seat and started smearing cream cheese on the blueberry bagel he’d laid
out for her. “Yeah. My grandmother saw a big dog roaming around the yard earlier and
wanted to let me know to be careful.”
He shrugged. “I’m sure it’s harmless.”
She fought off a shudder. “I don’t care. I hate dogs.”
When Nick started choking on his food Carly popped up and rounded the table.
She slapped him on the back a couple of times until he was breathing normally.

“Are you okay?” She stared down at him.
He cleared his throat and took a sip of coffee. “I’m fine. Guess it went down the
wrong way. Uh, you hate dogs?”
“Hmm? Oh, well, I don’t exactly hate them, but I don’t go out of my way to
befriend them.” She picked up her bagel.
    “Why?” His brows furrowed.
“When I was eight, a German Shepherd attacked me.” She stretched out her leg and
twisted it so he could see the back of her calf. “You can’t really see the scars anymore,
but it was a horrible experience. I avoid dogs if I can.”
“You don’t like any dogs then, even puppies?” he asked incredulously.
She rolled her eyes. “Puppies are okay. I just don’t like the bigger breeds… Why,
    are you a dog person?”
He shrugged and changed the subject. “So, do you have any plans for today?”
“I thought about going to the beach, but if you have something else in mind…” She
crossed her legs, letting her robe fall open to expose most of her thighs.
Nick dropped the rest of his uneaten bagel onto his plate and his gaze darkened. “I
was going to suggest we go to the Miami Seaquarium, but we can do that another day.”
Carly tugged on the tie and let the silky material slide off her shoulders. “If you’re
    sure.”

Nick froze as Carly stripped down to nothing. She wasn’t even wearing panties. His
gaze narrowed in on the soft red strip of hair covering her mound and he could feel a
growl begin deep in his throat.
The more he had her, the more he wanted her. He couldn’t ever remember being so
damn horny. It was as if someone else had taken over his body.
