Way too much detail. Some of these statements just donât say anything to the reader.
Confusing statements, such as âJan 2007 to Present, Principal Consultant, Brain Trust Corporation, Richardson, TX, High Tech Sales & Marketing Consulting Company.â Does Rex still work for this firm? It appears he is still working there. How can that be? He has worked for two other people at the same time.
In reality, Rex hired himself out to the companies he worked for on a consulting basis. Admittedly, it is easier to explain short stops on oneâs résumé in this manner, but it isnât a good idea to do so. Companies do not want to hire someone as a full-time employee if he considers himself a consultant. âConsultantâ communicates the idea that the candidate will leave and go to work for the highest bidder. As you will see, we did not include this title on his final résumé. Now, if Rex wants to have both a consulting-type résumé and a full-time employee type résumé, thatâs another matter.
A hiring authority would take one look at his nine-page résumé and almost certainly throw it away. So, we edited Rexâs résumé down to two pages and here is what we came up with:
