Jarrod Kane: Happy Man
"My sweet love, Jessica! How I have come to
love you so!"
I hold her photo up to the light and smile.
This is the love of my life. The virgin minx that I have managed to
capture and today is the day that we will christen our joyful
vanilla love for all to know.
I stand up and walk to the wardrobe. This is my
last year in high school. My birthday was only a short while ago
and now I am legally able to have sex. The same is true for
Jessica. She has just reached her 18th birthday on this very day.
You can imagine my stress. The woman I love will finally be mine
wholly.
I flick open my phone and check my messages.
There is nothing from her yet, except for a few roses and kisses
from last night. She probably hasn't woken up at this early hour.
It is 6:00am in the morning and school is due to start in another 2
hours. I, myself, could not sleep from the excitement. I wonder if
she feels the same?
A few flicks of a finger later, I log onto
Twitter. My best friend James has logged on already and is first to
post me and Jessica congratulations. He has also sent me a private
message. It reads:

"Tonight is the night! Are you two
sorted?"

    I quickly message him back:

"I'm nervous, but it is my first
time, so I expect it to be so."

I smile and push send. James is not a virgin
himself. He has always been popular with the girls due to his
devilishly good looks. I, for my part, am not so unhandsome myself
with my square masculine jaw and honey warm brown eyes. It is
perhaps odd that two young men with such different perspectives on
the opposite sex (me being a relationship man and him being a man
of many relationships), but we click. Simply, James is, honestly, a
good man. I am proud to have such a friend.
I flick through Twitter, check MySpace and
upload a picture of myself smiling into the mirror o Flickr with
the caption: The Best Day Of My Life!
Looking into my eyes in the mirror, I know that
it is. This is the moment that I have waited 3 years for after
all.

School Blues
"James!" I wave excitedly as I stride through
the front gates of the school, ignoring the looks of the young
women around me, who know quite well that they cannot have me - I'm
taken, after all, by the most beautiful girl in school.
He turns from Sarah, his current love, and
throws me his usual roguish smile.
    "Jarrod, you look excited."
"Shouldn't I be? This could be the best day of
my life!"
Sarah giggles and rolls her eyes and I throw
her a smile that makes her blush. It is no surprise, between me and
James we are the school's two most handsome young men.
"You should. It is about time that you two got
it on."
"Got it on? We are making love, love,
love!"
He cracks up and pats me on the
back.
"You are quite something, my friend. I have
never met a man more obsessed with love."
"Why not? A man should love fully and
deeply."
James looks to Sarah and winks, which makes her
blush even more deeply.
    "Of course."
We smile at each other in our own
understandings of the world. This is the right way of men. Respect
for all perspectives given and so much more.
"Is she here yet?" I ask.
    James shrugs.
"I haven't seen her yet. We have been waiting
for you to turn up."
"Thank you both. I hope she arrives soon. I
want to wish her happy birthday."
We turn our conversation to our weekends. I
spent mine with Jessica in the park with a date at a cafe
afterwards. It was exciting and fun.
James, on the other hand, went to a few parties
and then spent the night doing 'stuff', which I assume was sex -
knowing him. It seems that the one he was having fun with was Sarah
as her eyes widen fractionally on the mention of his
entertainment.
"Lucky you!" I proclaim as the school bell
sounds.
Hearing the clanging of the old bell, I look to
the gate. Where is she?
James gives me a concerned look. He knows I am
worried.
    "She will come."
He pats me on the back and we walk into the
school. I hope she will be coming to class
