just wash it here. I’m gonna go get a cup. Be right back.”
Nico knelt on the floor mat and positioned himself over the bathtub. He kept his cast tucked close to his body. Kayla returned in a flash and sat on the ledge. She guided his head, poured lukewarm water over his hair. Dark clippings rained down on the white porcelain. He felt a spurt of cool liquid on his scalp. Kayla massaged it into his hair. He closed his eyes because her fingers were so fucking amazing. She leaned over him, and he felt the weight of her breast resting against his side. His erection got even harder.
Kayla never said a word. She washed his hair twice, melting his bones in the process. Rinsing him one last time, she squeezed the excess water out, shut off the faucet. “There you go.” She slipped the other towel off the rack and dried his hair while he just stood there, staring at her with his mouth open.
She’d rendered him useless, and it took a moment to come back to Earth. Kayla watched him with total amusement on her face.
He pretended not to notice and went about brushing his hair. Maybe he should do his sideburns. He opened the medicine cabinet and grabbed his razor.
“Don’t shave.” She touched his face. “I like a little scruff.”
Nice to know. She didn’t think he looked like a bum. “Just cleaning up the sideburns,” he said.
“Not too much. They look better on the longish side.” She wiped his back and shoulders, brushing off hair bits.
“Yes, ma’am.” That’s how he wore them anyway.
    “You have a broom?”
    “Storage closet in the hallway.”
She lifted the towel from the counter and took it with her. Nico’s gaze followed her glorious ass until it disappeared from his sight. He gave his sideburns a light touch-up. Staring at his reflection, he had to admit, the spiky top of his hair stood up just how he liked.
“Somebody looks pleased,” Kayla said, appearing in the doorway.
“Hey.” They locked eyes and he gave her a lopsided grin. “I see you found the broom.”
“Yep. And I shook out the towel, but it still might have some hair.”
“Thanks,” he said. “Leave the broom. I’ll clean up later.”
“It’ll just take a second.” Kayla started to sweep the floor. She stopped and looked at him. “Are you done here?”
Not even close . He couldn’t explain what had suddenly come over him. And he didn’t care about the consequences. He took a step toward her. Kayla backed into the sink and watched him. He brushed curls from her face, trapped her with his bare torso. “I want to kiss you again, even though I keep telling myself that I shouldn’t.”
Her hand went to his shoulder. “As Nike would say, just do it .”
He fought back a smile. “Here’s the problem. I don’t think I can stop at one kiss.” The minute he tasted her again, all bets would be off. And so would their clothes.
She set the broom aside and looped her arms around his neck. “Why is that a problem?”
“I’ll want to take you to my bed.”
“Good,” she said, with the sexiest grin.
He gazed into her eyes. They were a window to her soul, and damn it, he liked what he saw. Her earthy sense of passion ran deep. “Not good,” he said, shaking his head. “You’re not like those other girls.”
“You mean a friend with benefits?”
That’s exactly what he meant. Someone he could sleep with and invest nothing but a good time. “Yes.”
She kissed his chin. “I’m glad you think I’m worth more.”
He most certainly did. “You are. But I can’t give you more than that.”
“Then just give me what you can.”
She mattered to him, and he owed her complete honesty. “I’d be shortchanging you. And you deserve better.”
She took his face with both hands and kissed his lips. Nico wrapped her with one arm. The heat of her kiss blasted his heart, shattered his doubts. Rabid need rushed to the surface, leaving him raw to the core.
“I want you,” Kayla said against his mouth.
    Christ, he
