resort glimmered in the dusk, climbing the ski runs and flowing down the bed of the canyon. This was Wyatt’s kingdom, which he’d built over the years into a mecca of glamour.
Having done her homework, Leigh knew that Wyatt was vastly rich. The resort with its hotels and businesses, lodge, ski runs and surrounding properties, along with some major investments and holdings, had to be worth well over a billion dollars. But she’d seen firsthand how modestly he lived. Even this house—beautiful as it appeared—was built more for comfort than for display. It struck her that in placing it on this lonely bluff, overlooking the resort, Wyatt had set up his own private world—a world apart from the lavish milieu below. Did that private world have room in it for a pair of new additions?
She remembered how she’d seen him earlier today, singing to Mikey as he cradled the tiny boy in his arms. Behind the domineering, hard-driving facade he showed the world, the man had a tender side—a side she wouldn’t mind seeing more of. Besides, there was something sexy about a man holding a little baby.
Even without the baby, Wyatt was one of the most compelling men she’d ever met. Last night, when he’d massaged her feet, she’d been close to panting. It wouldn’t have taken much to push her past the limits of common sense. And if she didn’t get herself under control, it wouldn’t take much again....
A stray breeze, smelling faintly of wood smoke, cooled her damp hair. The night had turned chilly, but she wasn’t ready to go inside. The stars were coming out, so many, so bright, undimmed by the lights of town. Far below, through the pines, she could make out the glow of headlights coming up the road. Her pulse quickened.
    It had to be Wyatt.

Wyatt had picked up the Bentley at the resort, where the only mechanic he trusted had delivered it. He savored the feel of the vintage auto as he drove it up the mountain road, flying around the curves for the fun of it. With the first heavy snow, the car would be stored in the heated garage. Until then he could enjoy having it back in good repair.
As he drove, he kept a sharp eye out for deer. Leigh had mentioned almost hitting one last night. Her near miss was a reminder for him to be careful.
His thoughts circled back to Leigh—as they’d been circling all day. The woman puzzled, intrigued and frustrated him. She had the kind of classy sex appeal that made him want to fling her over his shoulder and haul her into his bed. But why would such a woman apply for a nanny job? What was she after?
Her background check had come back squeaky clean—not so much as a parking ticket. No bankruptcies. No pressing debts. Her education and work record exactly matched her résumé. She appeared to be smart and capable, and anyone with eyes could see how she felt about little Mikey.
But when it came to baby care, Leigh was obviously flying blind.
Catching her with that baby book had roused his suspicions. Today’s incident had confirmed them. Anyone experienced with babies would have known Mikey might spit up. Hellfire, even he knew better than to burp an infant without putting a towel on his shoulder. But he’d seen the shock on Leigh’s face. She’d been totally unprepared for the drenching she got.
Whatever else she might be, she definitely wasn’t an experienced nanny. Not that he was planning to fire her. She was conscientious, hardworking and damned easy on the eyes. But he meant to discover Leigh’s hidden agenda—by any means it took.
Earlier, he’d resolved not to lay a hand on his new employee. But getting up close and personal might be the only way to pry out her secret. A little pillow talk could accomplish wonders. Besides, it was bound to be fun.
Whistling under his breath, he rounded the last curve in the road and swung the Bentley toward the garage.

Leigh was still on the balcony when the car pulled up to the house. She heard the garage close, then
