need to tell you. The first time we made love here in this bed, I nipped your throat, an act usually reserved between mates.” Greyson let out a deep breath. “At the time, I didn’t understand why I did it, but I wasn’t concerned because I knew you were a harpy.”
Zori frowned as he looked away from her. When he met her gaze, his eyes seemed to glitter in the candlelight.
“I would have never willingly bonded with an unwilling female.”
“I don’t remember being unwilling.”
“By unwilling, I mean becoming my mate without your prior consent.”
She shook her head in confusion. “So, you’re saying we’re married or something?”
“Worse.”
Zori sat up on her forearm. “ Worse? ”
“The bond between a were and his mate is very strong. It can only be broken if one were releases the other from the sacred union or by death. You are not a were and yet we’ve bonded anyway, but that leaves only me capable of releasing you from this bond between us if that is what you desire.”
Her freedom…he was offering her freedom from him. She could tell him to release her and go back to life as she knew it before she’d walked up to him in that club.
“I’ve never met anyone like you, Greyson. From the very first moment I laid eyes on you, I wanted you. I admired your confidence and strength.” She wrapped her hand around as much of his right bicep as she could and squeezed the tight muscle. “I tried to erase you from my mind, but I couldn’t. No matter where I went or how much I wanted to deny our time together had affected me.”
Zori fell back on the pillows and closed her eyes.
The intensity of her emotions scared her, but she was tired of being afraid to feel.
She took a deep breath, opening her eyes as Greyson cupped her face with his large hand. “This is a lot to absorb.”
“I know.”
“I never expected any of this either.”
He stroked her cheek with his thumb. “I know. I can make this right.”
“By letting me go?” Zori felt his entire body tense beside hers.
“Yes, if that’s what you want.”
“It’s not.” She laughed as Greyson rolled her over on top of him with a whoop of joy. “I thought I had everything I needed to be happy, but you changed all that.” She caressed his jaw.
“Zori…”
His lips found hers in a kiss so soft, so tender, tears welled in her eyes, spilling down her cheeks as the last wall around her heart disintegrated. The moisture must have hit his hand still on her face. He jerked his mouth away from hers, his gaze narrowing at the sight of the wet trail reaching her chin.
“Shhh…don’t cry. I don’t ever want you to cry with me. I want you to be happy, Zori.” His touch was gentle as he wiped her tears away.
“I am. Being with you makes me happy, Greyson. No man has ever taken control of my pleasure…or captured my heart.”
Greyson stilled. “Are you saying what I think you’re saying?”
The depth of emotion in his beautiful eyes rocked her to the core.
“What do you think I’m saying?”
She couldn’t resist challenging him.
He moved faster than she anticipated, pinning her beneath his huge body.
“That you’re mine.” His deep voice was more of a low growl as he lowered his head to nuzzle the side of her neck.
“Greyson!” She arched her back as his palms rubbed slow circles on her hardening nipples.
“ Say it.”
Zori moaned as he took her breast into his warm mouth. A few flicks on the taut peak and she grabbed hold of his head to keep him there as his tongue encircled the sensitive flesh. “I’m yours.” She protested when he lifted his head from her tingling skin.
“I’m so glad we got that settled.”
He blew on her wet breast and Zori shuddered.
“You’ve got at least fifteen days’ worth of loving to make up to me.”
“Umm…I’m gonna need to eat first.”
“Me too.”
Zori giggled then yelped as he grazed his teeth on her nipple.
“Never leave like that again. Promise
