With a quick pace, I replaced my dagger and practically ran for my rooms but Danella was at the entrance to greet me with her head held in anguish and regret. “My lady, I’d have never told you so if I’d known what course you’d take.”

“No, it isn’t, my lady.” She stared at me. “Ian is a better guardsman than that. You give him no credit. He knew the second you were gone.”
