went to the basement without checking the house out. She didn’t have the energy to deal with Mr. Cooper and his kiss right now. After checking for unfriendl ies she went to her cot , curled into a tight ball , and fell asleep. She had a doctor’s appointment late tomorrow and wanted to get in a good run before then.

~Chapter 8~

Coop was in the kitchen when she came in. When she stopped suddenly and stared at him and the gift on the table he knew she’d not ignored it like he’d thought , but had simply not seen it. He was both relieved and annoyed. And he couldn’t figure out either emotion.
“You have a party to go to this morning , Mr. Cooper? Seems a bit of an odd time, but I don’t know that much about things in the States anymore.” She opened the refrigerator and leaned down to get her tea.
“ Sydney, I’ve had my tongue down your throat and your body pressed intimately against mine . D o you think you can dispense with the ‘Mr.’ part and call me Coop , or even by my first name Payton? The gift is for you. I’m sorry , I didn’t know it was your birthday.” Coop wanted to pull her body close to his again and tangle with her mouth in the wors t way. “Did you have a nice time last night?”
She sat across from him and played with the ribbon on the package without looking at him. “When I was seven years old my father got me a gift. It was the only one I ever received from him. It was even wrapped. My sister Lizzy, my twin , got one as well. ” She looked up at him then. “It was a drill. Not a cheap one, but one that costs a small fortune today. Lizzy got a tool box. This is the first present that I’ve ever received that was wrapped since then.”
“Sydney, I’m sorry , honey. I didn’t know. Here , let me take this off.” When he reached for it , she grabbed his hand.
“Don’t. I’m sorry. I don’t…I have no idea why I told you that. I hadn’t…would you mind if I didn’t open it right now? I want to go on a run and I’m not in a place where I can appreciate this right now.” She stood up and looked down at him. “You can’t kiss me anymore either. It was really nice, great , but Richard asked me to marry him and I said yes.”
“Why? You don’t love him. Actually, I thought he was gay when I sort of met him the other week.” Coop stood up and she backed up. He moved toward her again.
“He is. I mean, no. He is , but he doesn’t want his mommy to—could you please back up? Why are you forever trying to back me into things? It’s very annoying.” She bumped against the refrigerator and pressed her hands against his chest. “You have to back off. Now, Mr. Cooper.”
“I do it so I can do this.” He cupped the back of her head and pulled her mouth to his.
There was no resistance even though he expect ed it . Nor did she hesitate in opening beneath him. Her mouth was cool from the tea , but warmed immediately under his tongue. She tasted of mint and of her. He wanted her in the most carnal sense. Beneath him, over him, around him , any of those ways, all of them. Sliding his hand up her ribs he felt her breath catch and he brushed his hand over the tip of her breast ; her nipple rubbed against his palm. When she arched into his hand he reached down and pulled her shirt up . H e needed to taste her flesh and could think of nothing but that. When her lacy , covered breast was exposed he pulled his mouth from hers and laved the black lace with his tongue then bit.
“Payton, please.” He didn’t care what s he wanted , he was willing to give it to her. Moving the bra down with his thumb he took her nipple into his mouth and suckled. Her fingers at the back of his head made his cock burn with need. Rocking into her , they both moaned and he reached between her legs and felt her heat.
The phone ringing in her pocket made her stiffen. He wanted to scream out his frustration when he felt her pulling back both mentally and physically. He let go of her nipple ,
