nice," the bitch cooed. "After our intimate time
together, I'd have thought..."
    "You can go to
hell!"
    "I'd rather
come in your mouth."
    "If you
think..."
    "I assume
you've seen the photograph?"
    "Yes, I
have."
    "It's come out
rather well, don't you agree?"
    "No!"
    "I'll be round
this evening."
    "You will
not!"
    "What a shame,
I really thought you'd see sense. No doubt my boss will invite
Danny round again. Well, not invite, exactly."
    "What good
will that do?"
    "It'll get you
working on the book, for one thing."
    "Danny's gone
away. He's..."
    "Yes, of
course he has. I'll be round at seven."
    As she hung
up, I knew there was no way out of it. She'd come round and
probably demand that I finger and lick her to orgasm while Danny
watched. "God!" I breathed, picturing the vile scene. I'd always
put sex and love together, sex and love between Danny and me, but
now? She could demand anything of us and... Us? Danny had said that
he'd have nothing to do with her. If she didn't get her way, if he
wouldn't play the game...
    Why the hell
hadn't I noticed the camera flash? I pondered. Not that it would
have done me any good. I should have known there'd be a
photographer lurking and drawn the curtains. I could have kicked
myself for being so dopey. But there was no point in hindsight -
the damage was done and that was that.
    My mind hurt
with thinking. They now had all the evidence they needed, so why
was the girl coming round for sex? There'd be little point in
taking more photographs, so why put herself at risk by returning to
the house? Her boss, as she called the unknown bastard, wouldn't
send her round - he wasn't stupid. Perhaps she was taking advantage
of the situation and, unknown to her superior, planned to enjoy sex
sessions with Danny and me.
    I pondered on
the notion for some time. It would have been an idea to speak to
her boss but, presumably, he hadn't made contact because the bitch
was the go-between. The thugs would have been employed by the man,
also protecting his anonymity. I was determined to find out where
the girl lived, discover her true identity. The private detective
was useless and I decided that, if I wanted a job doing properly,
then I'd do it myself.
    I'd make sure
that Danny was out of the way that evening, do whatever I had to
with the bitch, and then follow her. If I was right and her boss
didn't know she'd planned to come round, there'd be no photographer
and no getaway car waiting for her. Although I felt a little more
positive, I knew that discovering her true identity wouldn't really
help me. But it was a start.
    I walked into
town and opened a new bank account, depositing my royalty cheque.
At least I had some money, I reflected as I made my way home. I
felt terribly guilty for keeping it secret from Danny, but I knew
it was the right thing to do as he had a habit of manipulating me
and I'd end up paying the girl again. At least I had some
money.
    "I'm sorry,"
Danny smiled as I walked into the lounge.
    "It's OK. The
reason I didn't tell you was because... Well, it's not the sort of
thing I'd want to tell anyone, let alone my husband."
    "I understand.
Where have you been?"
    "I went for a
walk into town. The girl phoned while you were out."
    "What did she
say?"
    "She's coming
round this evening."
    "Oh, God!"
    "Danny, I have
a plan. I want you to go out this evening, go to the pub for a beer
or something."
    "What, and
leave you here alone with her?"
    "Yes."
    "But..."
    "Trust me,
Danny. I have an idea, trust me."
    "What are you
going to do?"
    "I'll tell you
later, if my plan works."
    Leaving Danny
in the lounge, I bounded upstairs to my den. If I discovered where
the girl lived I might be able to discover the identity of her
boss. Again, it would do me no good, but at least I'd know who I
was dealing with. I might tell him that the girl had been taking
money, money that he'd obviously know nothing about, and get her
into serious trouble. If he thought she was working alone, taking
money on the side... But
