blinked blankly.
    "Nothing. How's India?"
"Don't change the subject, how did last night go?"
Rajan pushed. "Don't leave anything out—do we have to neuter him?"
    "It went fine."
"Fine—fine for you normally means you managed to sabotage the date less than halfway through, sending your date running out of the joint traumatized for life. But since you're obviously wearing the same clothes, it must mean you haven't had a chance to change so that could only lead to one conclusion—oh my. My brother's a whore!"
    Laird laughed harder.
"You know, I can hang up on you." Savaro frowned. "All I have to do his click disconnect or close the laptop."
"But you won't." Rajan wiggled his eyebrows.
    Laird laughed harder.
"Are you two quite finished?" Savaro kicked Laird's leg. "I'm related to a bunch-a yuppies."
"You must really like this basketball player," Rajan continued. "What's his name?"
    "Jamal Kendricks."
Rajan shook his head. "Not my sport so I wouldn't know who that is. But if you like him, I support you."
Savaro smiled and leant closer to the screen. "I really do. I just—I'm afraid I'll mess it up. Like you said, I sabotage all my other dates before they are even off the ground. I don't want to do that with this guy—he's different."
Laird was finally off the ground and straightening his clothes when someone called for Rajan off-screen. He frowned and glanced toward them. "Keep your pants on!"
he called in Urdu then looked back at Savaro. "Don't be so negative. You're not going to screw it up. If you feel fear creeping in, tell him where you're coming from. Don't run away—make him see what you've been through. If he's a good man he'll understand."
    Savaro nodded.
"Just don't let him suck you off in his car," Laird added with a roll of his shoulders. "That never ended well for me."
    Savaro bowed his head.
"Oh damn! Why am I all the way in India?" Rajan asked. "That look means Laird's advice came a tad too late?"
"Shut up. Shouldn't you go back to your shoot or something?" Savaro made a face but his cheeks were on fire.
"Yup. You're right," Laird laughed again. "I was too late. The very sexy and talented Jamal Kendricks has sampled our brother's goodies in the back seat of his car."
"Yuppies!" Savaro folded his arms over his chest.
"Go take a shower," Rajan said. "Talk to you guys later. Tell Leroy bye for me."
    "We will," Laird promised.
Savaro disconnected and closed the laptop. He then turned to glare at Laird. "You know, sometimes I think you guys really do share a brain."
Leaving Laird in the office to go over some work, Savaro took Rajan's advice and took a shower. He couldn't help thinking of Jamal and wondering what he was doing.
But there was no time to fantasize too much because one look at the clock told him he would be late if he didn't hurry up. Getting dressed in a pair of jeans and a white dress shirt, he took a moment to rake his fingers through his hair and grabbed his phone. He stopped to remind Laird he had to take Leroy back to the orphanage and gave Leroy a hug.
"Hey Laird?" Savaro called from the door while pushing his feet into his shoes.
    "Yo!"
"I invited Jamal for tonight. You don't mind do you?"
"Not at all. I get a chance to size him up before you two get too deep."
Savaro moaned. "Just promise me you'll behave."
"Behave—tsk tsk big brother, that's such a dirty word."
Rolling his eyes, Savaro grabbed his keys and was soon speeding through the streets of Eros just as it started raining. He parked beside Aileen and hurried into the restaurant through the private door in the back. He stopped to give Aileen a hug and bumped fists with a few others before disappearing into his office. He ensured the deposits for his workers were done and seeing everyone was paid, he looked over the numbers from the night before, made a few orders before walking to the window. He folded his arms and watched the rain pouring down. He'd never felt so alone before. Taking a deep breath, he bowed
