friend I’ve ever had.  No more sex though.”

“Shit.  The sex was the best part.”  He laughed so she knew he was joking, of course he was.  She knew the sex was the least of them.

“I know.  How will you ever replace me?”

“I won’t.”  He shrugged.  “I bet Rider has lost all his mojo.  You may need to call on me… on the side.”

Lizzie felt a laugh bubble within her.  When it escaped it was like she was releasing her ghosts.  She knew they would be back, but they were giving her peace for a little while.

“Come on.  You can sleep with me tonight.  No sex.”

Lizzie studied him in the moonlight.  She nodded and let him lead he kt hidtr inside and up to his bedroom.  She curled up beside him as she had so many nights, but this time it was different, there was no charge of sexuality, just friendship and comfort.

    “Spec?”

    “Hmmm?”

“Thank you for being my friend.”

“I’ll always be your friend cupcake, no matter what happens.  You can always trust me.”

“I know and you can trust me too.”

“I do know that.  Now sleep.  I’ll keep the monsters away.”

Lizzie snuggled in close to him and drifted off.  She knew he would keep her safe.  He always kept his word.

Lizzie learned to deal with her demons with a little help.  Shadow still watched her and she knew he had figured out what she had done and why.  She couldn’t tell if he was angry, but no one could ever tell what he was feeling.  Someone bumped her and she turned to find her father sitting beside her.

“He’s a little pissed at you.”  He nodded toward Shadow.  “But he’s touched too.”  He laughed.  “I think that’s the part that pisses him off the most.”

She looked into his eyes.  Did he know?  “Why?”

He didn’t speak for a minute as he took a long drink of beer.  “We both know why.”

Lizzie nodded as she felt her eyes water.

“I’m real proud of you Lizzie.  It took courage and more grit than I thought you had.  Hate that you had to do it though.”  He continued to drink.

    Something unraveled inside of Lizzie.

“Are you disappointed in me Daddy?”

Preach sat his beer down on the bar.  He turned and met her watery green eyes.  “I am disappointed in myself for not protecting you better, for putting you in that position.  I’m disappointed in Shad and Spec for not getting to you sooner, but not you.  You are an amazing woman and I am proud of you.”

He grasped her chin between his thumb and fore finger and leaned over to lean his forehead against hers.

“I could never be anything but proud of you Lizzie.  Not ever.”

Lizzie threw herself into his arms and let herself cry.  He was a tough man, but he had a little seed of tenderness that he only let out when one of his girls k ofw h needed him.  She needed him now and he held her close.

    “Thank you daddy.”

She felt him smile against her hair and relaxed.  Things would be alright.

Rider stepped out into the bright sunlight.  It had been three months since the charges were dropped.  He’d been in rehab and had shared several visits with the brothers and two with Lizzie.  He’d been surprised to see Moose, but he was the first to make the three hour ride to see Rider, to reach out to him and make him feel like family again.  He’d apologized for the way he’d treated Rider and they had talked for hours about what had happened while Rider had been with Ginny.  Rider understood the bitterness now.  He understood the trouble he’d caused by being wrapped up in Ginny and he accepted the responsibility.  Moose also updated him on what was going on in the club.  It made him feel like less of an outcast.

Moose had also shared part of his own story.  It amazed Rider how little he’d known about the men he called family.  He was
