story, ma?â
âYou know . . . just moved here from Pittsburgh, looking for work.â
âI know some niggas from out that way. They in Braddock.â
âYeah, I know Braddock. Iâm from the Hill.â
He shook his head. âWhat work you do?â
âWhatever I can right now.â
âWhatâs your dream job? I know a lot of people. I might be able to help.â If it helped him get in her pants, he would get her any job she wanted.
âIâm good at public relations. Iâm also thinking I might want to go to law school.â
Two things Iâm always in need of . This is a classy bitch, he thought.
âBig ambitions. I like that,â he said.
Billie was feeling at ease now. She was ready to play this nigga like a fiddle. Men were so easy. All you had to do was give them the hope of sex and they were putty in your hand.
âSo? If you help me, what can I do to repay you?â She seductively rubbed his inner thigh.
His dick sprang to attention. âYou wanna get outta here, ma? Head back to my place?â
She removed her hand from his thigh. âIâm a good girl. I donât sleep with a guy on the first date.â
âYou call this a date?â he asked.
âWhat else is it?â
âIâll show you a first date. Come out with me right now.â
âNot tonight. I just got jumped. Iâm a little raw. I should head home.â She put her hand back on his thigh. âGive me your number. Iâll call you.â
He grabbed a napkin, wrote his number down, and handed it to her. âYou better be calling me.â
âDonât you worry about that, Stone. Youâll be seeing me again, for sure.â She put the napkin in her purse, kissed him on his cheek, and walked out of the bar.
âDamn.â Stone watched her walk away.
All the aches and pains Billie had been feeling when she entered the bar disappeared. The bath she was about to take was now a celebratory bath and not one to soak her wounds. Billie was feeling like fate was shining down on her from the heavens. She looked up to the heavens and knew that her daddy was looking back at her. He was definitely watching over her and had a hand in her chance encounter with Stone.
Chapter 7
âWhat happened to you?â Walter asked with concern. He had just entered the restaurant where he was meeting Billie. It had been a few days since her attack, and there were still signs from the beating she took. She had been calling out sick to work and wouldnât go back until she had healed, but she figured she couldnât keep avoiding Walter.
Billie remained sitting at the booth she was in. âItâs nothing.â
âBullshit itâs nothing.â He sat across from Billie. âYouâre bruised and your lip was busted. Tell me what happened.â
âI got jumped by some kids. Iâm fine.â She placed her hand over his as a sign of reassurance.
âWhat did they look like?â
âI donât really know. I wasnât too concerned with their appearance.â
âDo you remember anything? Their clothes?â
âI donât know . . . the same thing they all wear. Oversized white T-shirts and baggy jeans.â Billie was going to be as vague as possible. She didnât want Walter to start investigating.
âWhere did it happen?â
âUm, over on Cushing Hill and South Street.â
âLittle motherfuckers,â he mumbled.
âItâs okay. Letâs just enjoy our meal.â She placed her menu in front of him, hoping to distract him from the conversation.
âFine.â He started to look through the menu, but quickly put it down. He wasnât finished asking questions. âDid you file a report?â
âBaby, can we drop it? I donât want to think about it.â
âBillie, you gotta be kidding me. You didnât file a report ?â
âNo. I donât want to
