anywhere else, and I’ll buy you a ticket. You just have to go away now.”
She narrowed her eyes at him, shaking her head deliberately. “I’m not going anywhere, Patrick. You can kick me out of your house, but you can’t force me to leave the city.” She leaned in closer, lowering her voice. “Besides, what about the baby?”
He stiffened, staring at her in shock. “What baby?”
Lauren shrugged, looking unconcerned. “Neither one of us thought to use protection last night, did we? I could be carrying your child right now, Patrick. Do you really want me to go away? You want to send us away? Do you really want me to raise your son without you?”
He closed his eyes, a wave of dizziness sweeping through him, and even he couldn’t identify it fully as defeat or victory. He had a perfect reason to keep her, and he shouldn’t embrace it, but he did. “You’re not going anywhere.” He made the dictate with his eyes wide open, his gaze locked on hers. “No way in hell are you leaving with that between us. If my baby’s inside you, my ring is going on your finger, and you’re taking my name.”
She licked her lips, looking eager. “And if it’s not inside me? Do I still get the ring and the name?”
Reading the open vulnerability in her expression was what really broke down the last of his barriers, and he gave in with a sigh of defeat. When she learned the truth, if she ever did, she might hate him, but she would still be his by that point. He couldn’t imagine letting her go. The epiphany struck him suddenly. She wasn’t safe with him, but he couldn’t live without her. “Yes, you can have it all.”
She threw herself into his arms, peppering kisses across his face. With a growl of impatience, he cupped her cheeks in his hands, forcing her mouth to stay still under his so he could kiss her properly. She moaned against the fierce kiss, and he claimed her as his own. Soon, he would put his ring on her finger and give her his name. Someday, maybe sooner than they’d intended, her stomach would swell with his child. She belonged to him now, and fuck the consequences.

As Patrick kissed her, Lauren tried to shove aside her dart of guilt. She was desperate to get Patrick to admit how he felt. Even seeing what he was capable of hadn’t been enough to frighten her away. She loved him more than anything, and she hadn’t outright pretended she was pregnant. Only she knew she was on the pill, so it was almost impossible for her to conceive right then. It had been the words she’d needed to utter though, the final thing to break through his resistance to allow her to stay.
Allowing guilt to lead her, she broke the kiss and dropped to her knees, her hands moving smoothly and with confidence over his belt as she unbuckled it before opening his trousers and sliding them down to mid-thigh, where his pants and his underwear kept him somewhat trapped. He didn’t seem to mind as she put one hand on his buttocks, using the other to grasp the root of his shaft before bringing it to her mouth. She took him in slowly, wetting his erection with her tongue before she began to bob her head and suck. She wanted to give him the best orgasm of his life, as sort of an apology for fibbing about the possibility of babies. Not that she would mind having his child, but she wasn’t ready just yet. She wanted to spend some time as just Patrick’s woman before she became the mother of his children.
She had briefly struggled with her decision, but in the end, she had known what she had to do. She loved Patrick, and she couldn’t live without him. It was a simple as that. He belonged to her, and she belonged to him. She was his, and nothing was going to tear them apart.

Chapter Seven
He took her shopping the next day for the promised ring. The jewelry store offered myriad choices, and Lauren couldn’t help feeling overwhelmed as she examined them all. Everything seemed so flashy and ostentatious, so not her. As
