cupping his balls.
She needed to get out of here before she did something she’d regret. Opening the door, she nodded at the doorman then raced up the stairs. Her heels were hindering her escape. Stopping, she removed her heels and took off through the casino. No one stopped her as she ran toward the doors that held the stairs for the hotel room.
For several seconds with Murphy’s arms wrapped around her she’d been tempted to give in to him. Then reality hit her hard. Murphy was not the man who promised to love her and to put her before everyone else. He was the guy who’d left her without any explanation and then fucked any woman he wanted. The only thing she was thankful for was that she didn’t have to watch him fucking the women. She’d seen him around town plenty of times with several women.
Pushing the thoughts, the pain, and even the guilt of just hurting him, Tate ran upstairs toward her room.
“Tate!” Murphy was close as he shouted her name.
Running up the stairs, Tate tried to run faster. His movements were faster than hers , and she was losing her breath. She’d never run from an ex before.
Opening the other door to her floor, she ran to the steps, pulling out the key from her breast that Eva had given her. Her hands shook as she tried to push the key into the lock.
Murphy slammed behind her. He pulled her into his arms, covering her mouth with his hand as she made to scream.
“You’re not escaping me tonight.” He put her on her feet with his hand still over her mouth.
She clawed at his arms, trying to get free of his hold. Murphy held her firm, opening the door and locking it behind himself.
    Finally, he let her go.
Tate tripped over her feet and fell on the floor in a heap.
Glaring at him over her shoulder, she got up, panting for breath. She was satisfied to see him panting as well.
“After all those women you’re still unfit?” she asked.
“I see your dildo’s not working for you either. Your dress can’t hide your tits, baby. They’re rock hard.”
He took a step closer to her. Before she could react his hand went between her thighs, touching her heated flesh. Gasping, Tate couldn’t fight him. She wasn’t wearing any underwear , and the air between them changed. Staring into his eyes, Tate felt his touch go from hard to soft. His fingers didn’t probe at her but stroked.
She saw his face change as well. There was no longer a fierce look on his face. His other hand cupped her face, caressing her cheek.
The fight left her. Tate didn’t have the energy to be angry anymore. All she felt was the lust and the pain at his betrayal. Gasping for breath, she allowed herself this one night. What happened in Vegas, stayed in Vegas , and for once she could have this without any fear.
Catching his face between her hands, she tugged him down. Smashing her lips against his, Tate took the kiss she wanted from his lips.
“Tate, baby, please,” he said, breaking the kiss. “Let me explain.”
She shook her head. “No, no explaining. No nothing.”
    “I’m sorry.”
Pressing her lips to his, Tate cut off his apology. She couldn’t listen to it now. There was no way she could listen to anything he said. Pushing the jacket from his shoulders, Tate fisted her hands in his shirt. This was what she wanted tonight, nothing else.
One night. One night without fear. One night without arguments.
Tate wanted one night to forget the past between them. Closing her eyes, she slid her tongue into his mouth and transported herself in her mind back to their first kiss. She went back to her prom night where some people had laughed at Murphy being her date. The night had been lame , the dance awful with crap music and crap awards people gave each other to remember the glory days. The only upside of the whole experience had been Murphy. He was by her side with his arms wrapped around her, and she’d relished every single second of it.
He’d taken her outside to look up at the stars , and the
