The shaking really got bad when I didn’t share. I didn’t like talking about personal things with her or anyone. You never know when she would blurt something out at the wrong time and place. The night I shared with Hayden was as personal as anything I could think of ever happening to me.
    “Well, who’s the lucky fellow that got you to uncross your legs long enough for him to get some of that?”
    “If it’s any of your business it was Hayden Powers.”
    “Get the fuck out of here.” She stood up. “You can’t be telling the truth.” Tamika sat down on the edge of the bed, with crossed legs, looking intently at me.
    “I would never lie about a thing like that.” I reached over and picked up the book he had given me with his autograph and threw it to her. Tamika opened it, and on the front page he wrote, “To a dear friend, I never will forget this night.” And he signed his name. Hayden Powers. Tamika read it out loud.
    “Are you going to tell me more?” A knock came to the door. It was the waitress delivering our continental breakfast. Tamika opened the door and the woman came in with a large tray and set it on the desk. She signed the bill and closed the door.
    “I need coffee.” I poured myself a cup, held the cup with both hands thinking and trying to repeat that night in my mind, and I stood looking at the skyline wondering where he was and will I ever get a chance to see him again.
