The footsteps stopped. “I didn’t say I was upset.” He let his hands fall to his side, his attention tuned to the last footsteps he’d heard and waited for what seemed like an eternity. Most of the time he’d accepted the fact that he couldn’t see, but there were times, like right now, that he very much wished he could. He wanted to see Joey’s expression, look into his eyes. Maybe have a clue what 48

he was thinking. But all he could do was wait and listen to his breathing and Rex’s panting from the bed. It was unnerving. “Am I really beautiful?” He’d never really wondered what he looked like.
Since he couldn’t see, it wasn’t really important to him. But it suddenly seemed very important.
“Yes.” He heard the whisper, but no footsteps followed.
“Really beautiful.” Then a soft step reached his ears, followed by another.
He felt the heat from Joey’s body. Was he going to kiss him?
What would it be like? His body was ready to push him forward, but he waited, wondering.
Fingertips caressed his cheek and a thumb ghosted over his upper lip. He gasped and the touch retreated.
“I’m sorry.”
Robbie stepped forward. “Nothing to be sorry for, except maybe pulling away.” He reached out to Joey, his hands encountering a warm shirt, hard muscle beneath.

“You gasped.”
“It was that good.” If it was possible to hear someone smile, Robbie did at that moment. The touch was back, fingers sliding over his cheek. Robbie didn’t know what to do, so he stayed still, afraid Joey would stop what he was doing. Then he felt a soft pressure on his lips, gentle and hot. He wasn’t sure it was really there.
The pressure increased, and he knew it for what it was: his first real kiss. And he responded, with gusto. Lifting his arms, he entwined them around Joey’s body as the kiss deepened.

Robbie’s mind began to swirl with every emotion imaginable, and his body felt like it was on fire. If this was what it meant to be gay—bring it on, and the world be damned. His mind cleared just 49

enough that he could feel Joey’s hands sliding over his chest and around to his bare back.
“Robbie.”
“Don’t stop.” If he stopped, then this would be over, and he didn’t want it to end. He felt Joey’s lips soften and pull away, but he could still feel his hot breath on his skin and hear soft panting that mirrored his own.
“I can’t do this to you. You’re beautiful and I’m….”
“You’re what?”
“I’m so ugly.”
Robbie raised his hands to Joey’s face and felt smooth skin, then wetness. He ran his hand over Joey’s cheek and back through his hair. “You feel beautiful to me.”

He heard Joey’s breath hitch and a soft sniffle. His lips were taken again as fingers wound their way through his hair. He wanted… for the first time in his life, he knew what it felt like to want another person so badly he’d rather give up breathing than stop kissing.

“Robbie, we need to leave soon.” Eli’s voice calling up the stairs broke them out of their desire-induced daze. Joey kissed him one last time and stepped away.
“I need my shirt and can’t find it.”
He heard Joey begin looking through his closet. “I don’t know.
I think you’d be the talk of the evening if you went without one.” He heard Joey chuckle.
“It’d be a little nipply… I mean nippy.” He chuckled as well as his shirt was placed in his hand. Robbie slipped it on, and he shivered as Joey helped him with his cufflinks, fingers lingering on his hand.
    “Here’s your tie and jacket.”

Robbie put them on and sat on the edge of the bed, Rex scooting closer for a scratch. “Are my socks the right color? I once wore white socks to a performance. Can you say ‘Which violinist is blind?’”

“Your socks are fine.” Joey continued chuckling.
Robbie slipped on his shoes and felt Joey kiss him again. “I need to get
