more of who she is on the inside. I see the way she takes care of her grandparents—out of love, not obligation. That makes her even more beautiful to me.
That prick she’s seeing doesn’t deserve her. After how he treated her last night, I want to kick his ass. I saw exactly what happened in that car. He took what he wanted then left her, screaming at her like she was a dog. I don’t see how anyone can treat ladies like that. I don’t have a bad temper, but with him, I wouldn’t be able to control myself. I want to teach him a fucking lesson. But that probably wouldn’t get me into her good graces. My best course of action is to be a friend right now—a friend who throws out sexual innuendos and wants to fuck her ten ways to Sunday. No, I need to keep our interactions platonic until she wises up and gets rid of that jerk. Why do the assholes of the world get the best girls? Why are girls attracted to guys who treat them like shit? I’ll never understand that. Men are not meant to understand women. Just when you think you have one figured out, she changes her mind.

I don’t work long in the rose bed because of the heat and I’m tired from last night. Managing the undercurrent of Hendrix’s mood is exhausting and I need to relax. I pack it in for the day and come in to get a bath; I have a book to finish. The sexy cowboy of my dreams is waiting for me on my Kindle. I love reading because it takes me to another place and time. I’ve also learned some new sexual positions, not that it has done me any good.
The bath is warm and cozy and pulls all the tension from my muscles. The cowboy is hot and all alpha male. He is about to put this woman in her place and get busy with her when my phone dings with a message from Hendrix.
Dinner tonight at the club, I’ll pick you up.
I ignore his message by escaping back into my book, but a nagging thought keeps me from being able to focus on the words on the screen. I have never been to dinner at the “club.” Unable to resist the opportunity, I reply, Sure, what time are you going to pick me up?
There isn’t any time to be wasted here. Good thing I’ve already got everything shaved and my hair washed. I jump out of the tub and wrap the towel around me. I have no idea what to wear and I hate to call Lizzie to ask for her help because she will give me shit, but I need advice.
“Hey, girl, whatcha doing?” I ask once she answers. She starts talking so fast, I can barely make out what she is saying.
“...then she bent over and the whole damn dress split up the back. She turned around to see what happened and lost her balance, fell flat on her ass! It was EPIC, Bailey!”
She is laughing so hard I’m scared she is going to crack a rib. “Who are you talking about, Lizzie?” I inspect my manicure. The color is chipping. Maybe she’ll want to go get mani-pedis? My mind is running through my beauty routine at ninety miles per hour.
“Have you not been listening to me? Jesus, Bailey, what has gotten into you?” She giggles. “Hilary!”
    Now that is funny.
Lizzie is a bridesmaid in Hilary’s cousin’s wedding. Unfortunately, Hilary is the maid of honor and has been giving Lizzie hell. Back in high school, Hilary was the kind of girl who thought her shit didn’t stink. She had the perfect hair, the perfect body, wore only designer clothes and had every guy in school wrapped around her finger. She knew they all wanted to go out with her to screw her, but she used that to her advantage. She tormented us saying we were trashy, or spreading rumors about us. How we didn’t kill her in high school is beyond me. I’m glad Lizzie’s dealing with her now and not me.
Funny thing is, Hilary gained the freshmen fifteen twice over and it all ended up in her ass. Baby’s got back—ha ha. She has enough to balance a glass of water on her bottom but is oblivious to the fact. This wedding has been a fountain of entertainment for us, and Lizzie calls me after every
