fulfilling your duty. I love
everything about you, including these signs of honor Kyle. Any witch who could
look at these and not see the warrior you are, not know how you would throw
yourself headlong into danger to protect others is worse than a fool.”
Kyle wrapped his arms around her and the gesture was
everything she could have ever imagined. She felt secure, safe, grounded in a
way no other living person could possibly convey to her. She rested her head on
his shoulder, scooting down a few inches so she could hear the steady beat of
his heart.
A part of Sally wanted to discuss this new change for them,
talk about their exchange of power and the sharing of their essences. While not
unheard of it was an incredibly uncommon bond, linking two magical people and
often changing them, spoiling them for any other.
After having shared such intimacies, more shallow
relationships paled in comparison. Kyle’s body had softened, his breathing
slowed to its regular cadence.
Loath to ruin the moment, Sally decided they could both use
sleep far more than any post-coital discussion. As if he had read her mind,
Kyle reached down to pull the covers up over them.
“Is this enough warmth for you, or do you want me to get the
spare blankets?”
Sally smiled at his question, the innate gesture so typical
of his gentlemanly ways. She snuggled further into his embrace as they both
made themselves comfortable.
“I’m wonderful. Your body gives off more than enough heat
for me,” she assured him. Her eyes drooped as they settled together as if they
had been sharing a bed for decades. Despite the many thoughts in her mind, in
seconds she had fallen asleep.

Kyle struggled to hold onto his dream. Sally was in his
arms, a warm bundle of feminine sleek curves and a mop of silky, soft hair. It
was only as he realized his own breaths were coming in tandem with hers he
understood the dream was too realistic, the details too vivid. Slowly he
cracked open an eye as his fingers splayed over baby soft, smooth skin.
With a hastily indrawn breath the memories of the evening
before flooded back to him, startling in their clarity. He and Sally had shared
explosive sex. Mind-blowing in its intensity Kyle’s mouth dried as he recalled
their intimacy.
He’d heard locker room talk of sharing magic, an act not
many could boast truthfully of and one those who had experienced it kept
largely to themselves. Kyle had no real idea what Sally had gained from the
soul baring moment from him, he had received confirmation of his every thought
about the gorgeous witch. While yes, there was great darkness in her soul it
was solidly encompassed by a bright, shining light of good.
Despite her giving in to the temptation of darker powers,
Sally had always retained a simple form of purity Kyle had long envied. Without
a cynical bone in her body Sally tended to have a deep and abiding faith that
everything would work out as it should. Kyle had never been able to lay claim
to that sort of belief. Somehow, regardless of the corrupting influence she’d
been exposed to, Sally had come back changed, yes, but still with this inherent
faith in the balance of justice and the unchanging force of the universe.
When Kyle had followed Sally into the darkness, helped lead
her back into the real world and out of the labyrinth of her own powers he,
too, had returned changed. Unlike Sally it was not something externally
visible. He had only lost a few hours from his journey, something to be
grateful for, but the stain it had left upon his soul and magic was not
something he could change. Should he somehow be given the choice to make again,
however, he would not alter his actions.
Kyle had been willing to pay any price to save Sally. Had he
needed to barter his soul he would have, eagerly. A few tarnishes upon his
essence was something he wore privately and secretly without any regret. Just
as Kyle had seen Sally laid bare, so too did he understand she would have
