Sure, she’d been eyeing them and chatting them up whenever they came across one another since she’d moved here. But last night…well, shit! She shouldn’t be thinking the things she was thinking. It didn’t make sense. And there was no way it would work out long term with three men. Jealousy was bound to rear its ugly head eventually, and she’d be the cause of three friends forgetting they were friends.
“We’ll come up with a plan that will keep you safe,” Luke vowed, misunderstanding her silence. “Nothing will happen to you, River.”
Nothing, except getting her heart broken. Christ, she was a fucking mess. What the hell had Raymond ever seen in her?
“River?” Phil reached out and ran his fingers down her cheek.
“I know. I just…” She broke off with a laugh that even she could tell had a touch of hysteria in it. “I’m having one of those moments where I want to scream. All of this because of me. Because I had poor taste in a man.”
“No.” Rick shook his head. “You might have been the catalyst, but I’m thinking he was already on the downward spiral. Just hiding it remarkably well.”
She moved into Phil’s open arms, letting him hold her close. “Why me?”
“Really, River,” Luke sounded shocked. “You? Fishing for compliments? I never figured you for the type. But if you really need them. You’re beautiful.”
    “Sexy,” Rick added.
“Caring, considerate, generous,” Phil tacked on more.
She laughed as she was sure they’d intended. “I wasn’t caring, considerate and generous when I left my friends with no more than a note goodbye.”
“Yeah,” Phil assured her. “You were.”
“You did what you thought you needed to at the time. I’m guessing if he was bothering you, he was bothering them, too,” Luke murmured. “I’m guessing you hoped he’d leave them alone if you weren’t there.”
“Which also explains why you didn’t tell them where you were, to protect them,” Rick added.
“This is why I’m so lousy at poker. I’m too easy to read.” River shook her head. She was an open book it seemed.
Phil laughed. “We like that about you, too.”
“Sounds like there’s not much you don’t like about me.”
“See that.” Rick did that purr thing again with his voice that had her pussy weeping. “Hell, she’s even starting to read our minds.”
She grabbed Phil’s hand and tugged him with her to where Rick stood. Leaning into Rick, she nipped one of those biceps she loved so much with her teeth. “Can you read my mind right now?”
She dropped Phil’s hand and slid her fingers up to his chest, rubbing softly.
“Oh, baby, I sure hope so.” Rick groaned as she slid her other hand down to cup his crotch and give it a squeeze. His cock was already hard and ready for her.
“I think you’re reading it fine.” She pulled her hand away from Phil’s chest and turned fully to Rick, but her eyes skated over to Luke. “I hope you’re planning to join in.” She watched his Adam’s apple bob and licked her lips when he stood. There was no missing the bulge in his jeans.
“Not that I’m complaining here, River, but we do need to sit down and work up a plan eventually.” Phil was right. They did. But she didn’t want to let those thoughts interfere right now.
“I know,” she agreed. “But I’ll think better after I expend some of this pent up energy.”
“Yeah, me, too,” Rick muttered, already reaching for the button fly of his jeans. “Let’s expend some energy, lots and lots of energy.”
River wanted that, needed it. She didn’t want to think about how wrong it was for her to be with them. She shouldn’t have mixed sex up in all this, but she was only human. Still, what had started out as a way to relieve tension…
No, that wasn’t even the truth. She’d wanted them from the beginning. Had she met them under any other circumstances, she would have jumped at the thought of going out with any of them. She had no idea
