Earth has gotten into you?” She giggled as he gently swatted her ass.
Just before she could sit down on the couch she heard the doorbell ring. She looked over at Jace questioningly, taking in the silly grin on his face as he leaned against the door frame.
“Aren’t you going to get that?” Jace smiled nodding towards the door.
“I didn’t know we were expecting guests tonight.”
Judy made her way over to the door looking back at Jace, his eyes were as bright as a kid on Christmas morning. A smile plastered from ear to ear. This asshole probably ordered KFC chicken. Smartass . Lifting up onto her toes she peered out of the peep hole. She wasn’t sure who the large figure was on the other side. His hair was shortly cropped on the back of his head as he stared down towards the other end of the hallway. She waited for a moment until the man turned back and faced the door. His ice blue eyes and chocolate brown hair stood out as she took in the features of his face. Without thought she slung the door open and launched herself out at him.
“Mason!” Her heart felt as though it was going to rupture from her chest. Her brother was home.
“Sis! Oh , you don’t know how badly I’ve missed you.” He wrapped his large arms around her small frame, holding her as if she’d disappear at any moment.
“Oh my God … How did you? Where did you find me?” Her words stuttered from her mouth. “Are you ok? Are you hurt?” She held his large frame out at arm’s length checking him from head to toe.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Y our boy Jace here actually got in touch with me. Come to find out he actually served alongside my Master Sergeant. Since I was transitioning back into the civilian world he was able to pull some strings and get me a flight over here.”
“Jace!” Judy turned finding him standing behind her with that same shit eating grin on his face. Reaching out he took Mason’s hand shaking it proudly.
“Welcome home soldier.” Jace responded. “I hope everything went smoothly with your flight? Please, come in and make yourself at home.”
“Yes, thank you again for everything you did to help.” Mason said taking in the large apartment before plopping his large sea bag next to the couch. “Nice place you have here.”
“Thank you. It’s much more like home now that I have Judy with me.” He said wrapping his arm around her waist.
“I’ m sorry. I am still in shock that you are actually here!” Judy couldn’t help but smile. “I have my two favorite men with me now. Please tell me that you’re staying for a while, Mason.”
“I am completely transferred over into the civilian sector. However , you’re going to have to help me find a job.” He laughed. “I don’t want to be living off my little sister.”
“Oh, I think we can arrange something.” Jace smirked as the doorbell rang again.
“More guests?” Judy looked to Jace.
“ Nah, that would be the chicken.” He laughed as he headed over to the door.
“I knew your smartass wasn’t going to actually cook.” Judy chuckled as she helped take the food to the table.
    *****
“So Mason, what do you say you and I head into the office in the morning and I can introduce you to some of the guys?” Jace asked in between bites.
“Sounds good.” Mason said devouring another piece of chicken.
“Don’t worry about finding a place or anything right now. You can stay here with us until you get settled” Jace nodded.
“Ok thanks. I don’t want to be crashing on your couch for too long. I may check around this weekend and see what I can find.” Mason smiled over at Judy before continuing, “I might hook up with Alexis and see what that place was that she was staying at.”
“Alexis? How did you know Alexis was here?” Judy said trying to choke down the food in her mouth.
“We have kept in touch online for the last few years. I haven’t seen her in a while. She told me a few years back that she loved the place she’d found.
