yours.”
“You can call me every name in the book,” Jennings growled out.  “But watch what you say to her.”
“Watch what I say?”  Brian laughed and looked at Maggie.  “Just an FYI.  The girl just turned eighteen, so she wasn’t underage.  Sure she’s young, but her mouth on my cock felt so much better than your cold one ever did.  It was worth crashing that car over.  And her pussy?  It was sweeter than her mouth, not like that old bag you’ve got between your legs.”
Maggie stood there and said nothing, even though Jennings could feel her raging inside.  Jennings balled his fists up and started walking toward the car.
Brian laughed and climbed behind the wheel of his tiny little red sports car.
Jennings just glared at the prick, watching him peel through part of Jennings’ lawn as he took off.  Wide tire marks had destroyed a thick patch of yard.  Jennings stood there, anger churning in his gut as he listened to the high-pitched motor racing away.
Maggie turned to look at him.  “I am so, so, so sorry for that.”
Jennings looked up at the sky.  The guy had proved to be a prick, but he still didn’t like the mess being brought to his house.  “Isn’t it late for our run?”  He turned on his heel, afraid he’d open his mouth and say something he’d later regret.
He wanted to drag her into his arms and be thankful the fiasco was over.  He also wanted to rail against her and demand answers as to why she’d not told him of what was going on in her life before they’d shared what they had.  The two extremes warred within him.  Ignoring what he felt seemed simpler.  Maggie had warmed his bed without fully being free from her fiancé—that stung.
But then, what were they?  They’d fallen into bed.  Two lovers who’d shared a single wild night.  They’d been needy and used one another.  It was as simple as that.
Jennings grimaced as Maggie walked away from him.  She looked as shell-shocked as he felt.  He lifted a hand to her back, wanting to reach out and pull her close and whisper it would all be alright.
    He just couldn’t.

Chapter Eight

Maggie stared into the mirror, the steam from the shower wrapping around her body.  Condensation began to mist over the edges of the glass, but she couldn’t stop looking at herself.  Her nipples were deep red and swollen from his kisses.  She lifted a hand to touch the abraded flesh, still sensitive from Jennings’ mouth’s sucking pull.  Her breasts felt heavy and sore.  Lifting one of the weights, she sucked in a breath, still reeling from his assault.
She’d ignored his comment about the run.  Her body was in no shape to run at the moment.  After that exchange outside, she wanted to crumble.  She’d ignored the confrontation she’d known would happen, only to have something much uglier and much more evil occur.  If she’d faced Brian at home, none of this would’ve happened.  She could’ve ended things properly instead of inviting this kind of shit into her life.
Why had Brian burst in right after a beautiful night with Jennings?  Was she cursed when it came to men?  She hadn’t known Jennings long, but she’d felt something so strong with him, a connection she’d never felt with any other soul.  Maggie had gotten a little taste of heaven only to have hell come knocking on the door.
Tears burned the back of her eyes, but not from Brian.  Frustration filled her.  Jennings had opened up to her a little last night, and she’d thought something wonderful was possible.  The shutters had fallen back down over Jennings eyes as he’d walked back into the house, and the man she’d shared a bed with last night was gone.  She’d been skewered on that front lawn, and he’d turned his back on her.
    It hurt.
She lifted a hand to her mouth, caressing her kiss-ravished flesh.  They were deep pink and swollen, too.  Jennings had feasted on her lips, and she’d given him all she’d had.  There
