taken care of before his. She was
there for a long time feeling her wetness mix with his.
    “You’re
an easy woman to fall in love with, Monique,” she heard Rick
say from behind her. “I like my women with curves and you have
more than enough for me.” She felt his mouth on her neck. Did
he want to go for another round? She wouldn’t object.
    “Oh, Rick,”
she told him. “That is so sweet of you. I’m falling in
love with you too. We may never get out of this mess and I don’t
care. It was enough to be with you.”
    “If I can make
my connection in the museum,” he told her. “We may have
another way out.”
    “I thought you
just wanted to come here to kill time,” she told him, rolling
over to look at her lover. “Was there another reason?”
    “I had a
contact here to use if I ran into some real bad trouble,” he
said. “I’ve used her before. I don’t know how much
help she’ll be because of the current mess. She may not want to
get involved. It was one thing to smuggle out some records, another
to get involved in a bomb going off somewhere. But I can always try.”
    She lay in his arms
for a long time and looked up at the room and the skylight which let
the light in. It was truly a wonder with all the gold lighting it up.
Monique speculated on how it must have appeared in the evening with
the candle light providing the illumination. What other famous people
had made love in this bed?
    “So who else do
you know of besides Liz and Dick did the nasty in this room?”
She asked Rick.
    “A bunch of
politicians,” he told her, “but not too many movie star
types. I was told Errol Flynn had a very fun evening with some young
Russian women Stalin sent to him at the end of the Second World War.
Some Hollywood actress named Jane tied her boyfriend to the headboard
and worked him over with a riding crop. The KGB had those films for
years and screened them to the right people every now and then. I
don’t know who else had the benefits that went with having the
right connections to the museum. But I’m sure there were quite
a few.
    “There’s
a shower stall behind one of these panels,” he told her. “We
need to find it so we can get cleaned up and see the rest of the
museum. I’m not sure where my contact is working at these days.
We’ll have to find her if we’re going to get any help at
all. I just don’t trust the agency even if we have the super
drive. They’ll find a way to get it from us and leave you and
me to burn.”
    Rick helped her out
of the bed. They walked naked across the floor until he found the
panel he was searching for. Once through the door, Monique found
herself in a modern bathroom with a shower big enough for the both of
them. Rick scrubbed her all over while they were in the shower and
told her all the things he wanted to do to her once they got out of
Russia.

Chapter 6
    An hour later, a
panel inside the Egyptian exhibit in the Hermitage Museum opened up
and a figure emerged. It was Rick, trying to find out if anyone was
near the hidden panel. He glanced around, felt secure, and went back
to fetch Monique. When both of them were outside, he activated a lock
which secured the door. They continued into the exhibits, appearing
to be any other tourists.
    “I expecting
the men in trench coats to show up at any minute,” Monique said
to Rick.
    “They are out
there,” he told her. “But they wear heavier coats this
time of year and sheepskin caps. But with any luck we’ll be
long gone before they know where we are.”
    They moved into other
rooms, looking at the paintings and statuary which filled the
museums. The size of the museum complex was staggering. Monique
remembered visiting the Smithsonian as a young girl with her mother
in Washington, D.C., but this place made the one overseas look small.
It had been constructed to let the world know the tsar was not to be
ignored. His reign was absolute and his word was law. The rest of the
country needed to shut up and do as
