every day. Even though we told each other we wouldn’t make love anymore, we always did. Andrea seemed to always know. I started leaving clothes at Greg’s apartment so I could shower and change before going home. She still knew. No matter how hard I tried to convince her that I knew what I was doing, she was adamant that something was up with Greg and I was going to get hurt. It became a source of contention between us and Andrea made it clear that she did not approve.
Alicia refused to discuss Greg. “Sometimes when people that love you are trying to tell you something for your own good, you need to listen,” she said standing in my doorway one morning after one of my many late nights. “Everything that looks good is not good for you. Too much chocolate will rot your teeth.” She walked away and I heard her bedroom door close.
Alicia was leaving for New York to see Dennis. As far as I was concerned, she had no room to talk. I knew she would be staying with Dennis and assumed she was sleeping with him, too. She loved Dennis, I loved Greg.

Greg was on call the following Friday and I didn’t have anything to do – Andrea was meeting with her study group, Alicia wasn’t coming home until Saturday and I hadn’t made any other friends because I never socialized with my co-workers outside of the clinic. Andrea had frequently pointed out that Greg monopolized my time but I was in love and I was happy. However, realizing that I had not spent much time with my cousins over the past few weeks, I made plans to spend Sunday with them.
â€œLet’s go to dinner,” I announced in the car on our way to church. “My treat.”
â€œSounds good to me,” Alicia smiled. “Can I suggest the Southern Platter?”
â€œYeah,” I told her. “That does sound good.”
Andrea continued to drive. Alicia turned and winked at me.
â€œAnnie,” Alicia poked her in the arm. “Don’t you want to come?”
â€œYeah, I’ll come,” she said with a straight face. “The Sunday School teachers have a short meeting after church. Ishould be done by two o’clock.”
â€œWe’ll wait,” Alicia told her. “You’re driving!”
Mom sent me a picture of the three of us that Uncle Paul had taken during the summer of 1969 on the beach in Atlantic City. I had the picture copied and framed to present to my cousins as a small token of appreciation.
â€œThis is for you,” I said tearing the paper off the picture after we ate.
â€œDani!” Andrea exclaimed. “This is so nice!”
â€œWhere did you get that from?” Alicia asked.
â€œMy mom sent me the picture in one of her letters. I thought it was cute and wanted you guys to have a copy.”
â€œThank you,” they said in unison.
â€œI really appreciate your letting me stay here,” I told them. “I had a great summer.”
â€œWould it have still been great without Greg?” Andrea smirked with a raised eyebrow.
    â€œYeah.”
â€œWell, what about Greg?” Alicia asked.
    â€œWhat do you mean?”
â€œWhat’s up with the relationship now that you’re going home?”
â€œI know how to get to Harrisburg,” I smiled. “He’s trying to get a job at the Hershey Medical Center. He wants to stay near his parents so he can help them.”
â€œHe’s so perfect,” Andrea stated sarcastically.
Alicia changed the subject to their upcoming vacation. She and Andrea were going on a seven-day cruise to the Grand Cayman Islands the week after I left.

August had come too quickly and before I realized it, my internship was ending and I would be going home. I hadnot applied to any graduate programs before leaving Penn State, and it became necessary to make some decisions about what I was going to do next. I was sure of my love for Greg and decided to wait until he found a job before applying to
