gave Isobel a final look up and down and then turned on her well-shod feet and walked away, leaving Isobel standing there, pale and shaken to the core. Was Jessica right? Would Tyler dump her if his business was threatened? Her head was in a whirl and she really didn’t know what to think. She needed some time and some space, and Isobel knew she wouldn’t be able to get that if she stayed in the suite. Tyler’s meeting could end and he could join her at any moment, and she really needed to get her head straight before talking to him.

She put the key card in her purse and made her way back to the elevator. Maybe a walk would help her to get her thoughts straight.

Chapter Six

Isobel walked for what felt like hours, ignoring the persistent ring of her cell phone and eventually turning it off altogether after calling the reception desk and asking them to give Tyler a message that she was okay and that she’d see him tomorrow. She sat on the beach for a while, hoping that the sound of the waves crashing onto the sand would soothe and calm her. Instead it just seemed to mirror her own crashing thoughts and did absolutely nothing to give her the answers she was looking for.

In fact she didn’t even know what she was searching for anymore. She had thought that she and Tyler had a future together; something that they could build on and cherish, but after what Jessica had said she really didn’t see that happening. And even if he did decide to choose her over his business, could she really sit back and let that happen? He’d worked all his life to get where he was. Did she really want to be the one to ruin it or him?

As for their sex life, Isobel had thought that that was also something to cherish, and yet Jessica had known all about it and told her that things would soon change. She really didn’t think she could handle not being good enough for yet another man. It had taken her long enough to get over Marcus dumping her the way he had… if Tyler did the same thing it would kill her. She had more than her body invested in this relationship; her heart was invested as well.

Isobel shivered and wrapped her arms around herself. While she had been lost in thought the sun had gone down and the temperature had dropped. It was time that she found somewhere to sleep for the night because she couldn’t stay out any longer. She wearily got to her feet and made her way back to the hotel, asking the receptionist if there were any available rooms and booking herself into one on the third floor. Hopefully it was far enough away from Tyler’s suite that she wouldn’t bump into him.

As Isobel opened the door to her room, she remembered that she didn’t have any of her baggage with her; it was all up in Tyler’s suite. With a sigh she went back down to the lobby and located the hotel store, purchasing some toiletries and a pair of cotton pajamas before making her way yet again back up to her room. A quick shower later and she was starting to feel a little more normal.

With a yawn she climbed into the queen-sized bed, knowing that it was a far cry from the one she would have been sharing with Tyler if she was with him. She wondered what he was doing right now. Was he worried about her and wondering where she was, or was he fast asleep? Or maybe he had someone else with him. Jessica, maybe? Her stomach churned again at the thought and she shut it out of her mind.

Isobel drifted off into a fitful sleep, her thoughts a combination of what she and Tyler would be doing right now if they were together, and was Marcus right when he’d called her frigid and boring all those years ago.

With the way her mind was whirring, it was no wonder that the dream she had was as vivid as it was messed up. She had no idea where she was, but she did know that she was having the most amazing sex of her life. And while it should have been with Tyler, it was Marcus who she dreamed of as she tossed and turned
