do.”
    “And what is that?”
    “You’ll…hurt him.”
“Damn right. Why do you care? He doesn’t deserve mercy from you.” I clenched my fists, feeling my temperature rise.
“I don’t want you to get in trouble. You could easily be arrested and kicked out of school.”
My eyes flashed wide. The adrenaline kicked in. “You think I give a shit about any of that? I don’t care about school. I care about you.”
She crossed her arms over her chest.
“I’m dropping out anyway. I want to be a professional fighter. You know this.”
“It still won’t solve anything.” She shifted her weight. “I just want to forget about this whole thing.”
“Forget about it?” I asked incredulously. “What will that solve?”
    “It’ll go away eventually.”
“How’s that been working out?” I asked bitterly.
She met my look, the fear in her eyes.
“Livia, tell me who the fuck he is.” I wanted to strangle her for being uncooperative.
    “No. You’ll go after him.”
“What makes you think I won’t do it anyway?” I snapped. “When you saw me at the frat party a few weeks ago, you want to know the real reason why I was there? I was trying to find the fucker who did this to you. So whether you help me or not, I’m going to find this piece of shit, find out who the other four are, and I’m going gut each of them like a fish then burn their corpses in a field.” Spit flew out of my mouth in the heat of the moment. My fists were clenched so tightly my knuckles hurt.
    “Scotty, please let this go.”
Now I was pissed. “Let this go? You’re fucking joking right? Did you call the police when this happened? Arrest them?”
    “No…”
    “Why?”
“I was afraid they would hurt me later…”
I could strangle her. “No. I’m not going to fucking let this go. No one rapes my girlfriend and walks away with both of his legs.” She flinched at the use of the word ‘rape’. No one touches you without your explicit permission. I’m not letting them get away with this. You’re practically dead, Livia. This has ruined your life. And more importantly, they are probably doing this to other girls. Someone else out there has experienced this same agony. If not for yourself, shouldn’t you take them down for that reason alone?”
She squirmed under my gaze. “Calm down.”
“I will not calm down.” I got in her face. “I will face this head on and I will get justice for what happened to you. Whether I kill them, beat them to a pulp, or get the police involved, something is going to happen.”
“Then everyone will know what happened…” Tears welled in her eyes. “I don’t want anyone to know about that night. If I go public with this, it’ll be common knowledge.”
“And everyone will think you’re exceptionally brave.” My voice came out gentle.
    “There’s nothing I can do. It’s been too long…”
“It’s never too late, Livia. I’m going to take these guys out. Please help me.”
“I don’t want you to get involved in this.” She grabbed my hand. “Please let it go. I never should have told you…”
I pulled my hand away. “Never should have told me? So you want a man that will just stand by and let this go? You want a man that won’t fight for you? You want a man that just gives up?”
“I’m not saying that.” Her voice grew loud. “It’s been almost a year since it happened. I don’t have any evidence to convict them, and I don’t even know who the other guys are. I just know one. That’s it. And taking him out won’t fix what happened. He may have raped me but he never tried to hurt me. Violence will accomplish nothing.”
“He didn’t try to hurt you?” I laughed because it was so absurd. “Poisoning you with a drug so he could thrust himself inside of you constitutes as hurting someone. He violated your rights and abused you. Believe me, death will still be too good for him.”
“Stop.” She covered her face with her hands. “This is too
