Chase left her in the bathroom to finish her absolutions with an admonishment to hurry.
She stood in the middle of the bathroom in a daze. The voices of the boys brought her to her senses, making her rush to get her teeth brushed and her hair dried. She wrapped the towel around her body and braved the bedroom to find it empty. She saw her jeans, shirt, and underwear, along with her socks and boots, all cleaned and neatly folded on the bed. She guessed Gertie or a maid had come in sometime during her shower episode and laid the clothes out. The thought of someone hearing her cries brought a searing heat to her cheeks.
She sat on the edge of the bed and took a deep breath before picking up the phone. She silently thanked the boys for remembering to put a phone in here. She dialed her sister’s number and closed her eyes for the coming conversation.
"Gabby? I'm sorry it's so early. I can't really get into a deep discussion right now. I just wanted to let you know I was all right. No, they offered me the opportunity to come down and see the ranch. I was due for some time off, and Stuart was fine with me taking a few weeks. Gabby, please. I will talk to you later, okay. I really have to go. I know this isn't me. I just need you to trust me, okay. I know what I'm doing. Bye, Gabby," she said softly. I hope I know what I'm doing .
Liana quickly replaced the receiver. She loved her sister very much, but sometimes she acted more like her mother than her sister.
She made her way to the kitchen, following the sounds of boys. She came to the entrance of the kitchen and just stood there to watch the two of them move. They didn’t wear the same shirt, and they each had a different haircut, but if their intentions were to appear different, they failed miserably. She watched as their movements mirrored each other getting things ready for breakfast. They even talked in half sentences, one picking up where the other left off. She must have made some sound because she found their focus turned to her in full force, making her stomach flutter. Heady stuff, she thought to herself.
“Kitten, what would you like for breakfast? Gertie leaves this meal to us because of the unreasonable hour in the morning she says 6 a.m. to be.” The twinkle in his eye belied his displeasure in the statement.
“I usually have cereal,” she replied, going to the cupboard he indicated. She squeezed between the two mountains as they stood immobile.
Chase didn’t let her pass. When she lifted inquiring eyes up to his, he swooped down for a good morning kiss. She clung to him, matching each kiss with one of her own. He tasted like a combination of fresh mint and coffee. He ate at her mouth.
She was released, only to be turned and the process repeated in the exact same way. Her senses were reeling once again this morning from the dual pleasure.
“Good morning, Kitten,” they each said at the same time.
She melted against Donavan’s chest and giggled. She had no protection against these two.
“Good morning, Chase, Donavan,” she replied against Donavan’s chest.
They finally let her choose her cereal. She shook her head when they smiled at each other when her hands trembled trying not to spill the milk all over the counter.
Chapter 5
She found herself again in the same Jeep as last night, headed to the stallion barn. Her outlook on the previous day’s proceedings was somewhat a blur. She felt at home here, that she belonged. She couldn’t explain it.
The dawn’s morning light was just peeking over the horizon. The dew from the night's embrace glistened over the grass and clung to the leaves of the trees. The crisp air had a heady aroma in it. The smell of horses, grass, and hay mixed with the less pleasing smell of manure. The smell was a cowboy’s perfume.
She breathed deeply, loving every smell. This was her life. Every aspect of horse rearing, training, caring was what she had dedicated her life to from a very early age. She began each
