uttered with desper-ate conviction because she could feel the tendrils of the sorcery she feared.
"There is always going to be magic between us." He brought his mouth down on hers, brushing her lips lightly, persuasively.

Jamie could feel the leashed control he was exerting and momentarily wondered at it. It seemed to her that he was having to use a great deal of strength to keep from overwhelming her defenses with sheer masculine aggression. The very fact that he was making the effort intrigued her. Did he want her so very much?
"Jamie, Jamie, I've missed you so. It's been hell waiting for you." Cade's thumbs moved in slow, luxurious circles just below her ears. The small caress was infinitely erotic. "Did you know what you were doing to me by making me wait so long?" He spoke the words against her mouth. "Do you know how many times I've lain awake remembering that last night we had together?"
"No, Cade," Jamie managed, as despairingly she recognized that on one level, at least, he was right. The physical magic they generated between them was still strong. "I don't know the answer to any of your questions." That's why I'm here , she added silently; to discover the truth about you and me .
"The answers don't matter now that you're here. I've wanted you so badly, sweetheart," he groaned, leaning backward and drawing her down on top of his chest.
Just for a moment, Jamie promised herself. She would allow her senses to be engulfed once more for only a moment. She barely felt it when he slipped the glasses off her nose. The strong hands, so excitingly familiar to her from six long weeks of unwelcome dreams, began to move on her body. Jamie knew she shuddered beneath the touch and was aware that Cade knew it also. A distant voice of warning reminded her that he was a man who would use such information. He had a talent for manipulation.
"Don't be afraid of me, Jamie. I only want to make love to you once again. I need you, honey. God, how I need you. Don't you remember how good it was that night?"
The passionate seductive words flowed over her, dark and coaxing. Jamie closed her eyes, knowing she had to put a stop to this soon or she was lost. She needed time, carefully structured and controlled time before she took this chance again.
Cade's blunt fingers traced the line of her throat to her shoulder and then followed the V-shaped collar of the red wrap dress down to the lowest point. The dress had seemed demure enough when Jamie had put it on this evening, but the feel of Cade's touch as he explored just under the edge of the fabric was electric. It was as if she were wearing only a nightgown meant to be discarded.
No man had ever had the effect on her that Cade did, and she knew that he probably realized it. The longing to touch him more intimately took control for a moment and Jamie's trembling fingers toyed with the buttons of his white shirt.
"Go ahead, sweetheart," he urged thickly.
She found herself obeying. A little awkwardly she undid the buttons, telling herself at each step along the way that she had to stop soon.
"Cade," she whispered achingly as her copper-colored nails laced through the curling hair on his chest.
    "Oh, Cade…"
"I think you've missed me a little, too," he murmured in satisfaction. Deliberately he let his palm slide across the fullness of her breast. Beneath the fabric of the dress he felt the added protection of the bra she had worn. It was a very well designed, very prim little bra made of rather sturdy, plain material. It was not a romantic scrap of lace and satin of the sort she had worn during the two months in Santa Barbara. "You didn't need all this armor just to go out to dinner with me, honey." He chuckled affectionately. "Did you think I was going to assault you?"
Something clicked in Jamie's head. "No, Cade. That's not your way, is it? You don't assault. You infiltrate and manipulate. You're a very devious man. I must be sure to remember that." She lifted her head to look down
