drag her
back to his bed right now. Joey wanted to make love to her all
damned day.
Without looking up she asked, "Are you going
out this afternoon?"
She meant his collections, which he had
already finished two days ago.
"No, we can spend the day together. Would you
like to go to Rockwood Park? It's a beautiful fall day. We can walk
around, and then maybe go out for dinner. If you like."
She glanced up. "Yes, I would like that,
Joey."
He stood. "Let's walk down to the drug store
and get some snacks for tonight." He held out his hand. "I want you
to try potato chips. They are similar to fries, only thinner cut
and you eat them cold."
With a hint of a smile, she slipped her small
hand in his. Her touch made his damned day. Nothing could go
wrong.
They stepped outside. Leaning against the wall
of his building was Jack, smoking his Export A
cigarette.
"Indelli, the boss wants to know if you made
the collections."
    Jack's gaze scanned Cathy's figure in a
leering way. Joey felt annoyance build, not only for the look the
scuzz bucket gave his girl, but the fact McGonagall sent his flunky
to check up on him. He had never done that before. His girl? He
thought of Cathy as his girl?
"Babe, go on ahead. I'll meet you in the drug
store."
She looked tentatively between the two men,
nodded, and headed down the hill stealing glances back.
"Hot chick, she yours? I wouldn't mind
fu–"
Joey grabbed Jack by the throat and slammed
him up against the wall of the building. Jack had more muscle but
Joey had seven inches of height on him.
"You don't ever look at her, you dig? You
don't talk to her or think about her. You tell McGonagall I'll be
by tomorrow with his friggin' money. Don't come by my place
again."
He let go and Jack coughed, wheezed, and
rubbed his throat, giving Joey a threatening look. He snarled,
climbed into his blue Impala, and sped off laying rubber in his
wake.
Joey watched the car disappear over the hill.
His fists clenched in rage.

Catherine had to admit she enjoyed the day.
Awaking at sunrise, she wasn't so certain she would. When she’d
first cracked open her eyes, she found herself wrapped around Joey
like a quilt. They were facing each other, her head tucked under
his chin, and her hands curled next to his chest while his arms
encircled her. Never had she felt so warm, safe, and protected. To
awaken every morning next to this stunning man would indeed be
satisfying. However, her sentimental feelings gave way to cold
reality when their conversation of the previous night played
through her mind.
First and foremost, she was a little hurt and
annoyed. After begging Joey to show her everything with regard to
physical pleasure, he took a shower and went to bed. Leaving her
alone was a patent rejection and it still stung. Perhaps he was
embarrassed that he 'came in his pants'. What did she know of men?
Absolutely nothing.
Then he questioned her return home and doubted
her hypothesis. How dare he? She was not without scientific
knowledge, but then how do you explain the unexplainable? She had a
'feeling' deep in her soul that she had the solution to returning
to her time.
Catherine tried to stay annoyed and peevish at
Joey, but doing so was a losing prospect. He coaxed her out of her
annoyance with relative ease. He was buoyant and outgoing through
their lovely walk in the park. Truly, how could she resist his
charms?
They bought hot chocolate and sat on a bench
talking for hours. Afterwards, Joey took her for a drive around the
city, pointing out various landmarks and explaining the history.
Saint John was very old. It was Canada's first incorporated city
and Loyalists from the Revolutionary War settled here. Joey's tour
was all very fascinating.
They enjoyed a fine meal at the Riviera
Restaurant. Catherine had never seen such a place with dark wood
panels, candles on the table, and such an abundance of food. She
had enjoyed a strawberry milkshake and almost asked for
another.
    She was tempted to bring
