boring with you around,” Felix said.
    Demona
avoided eye contact with him. “It is though.”
    “Tell
me about your family,” Felix said.
    “I
don’t have a family. I lived in foster homes.”
    Felix
studied her. “Knock, Knock.”
    “Oh
boy. Who’s there?”
    “Lima
Bean.”
    “Lima
Bean, who?” Demona rolled her eyes.
    “Lima
Bean missing you,” Felix said. He smoothly reached across the table and laid
his hand on top of hers.
    Demona
chuckled.
    “We
don’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to. Just tell me when you feel
uncomfortable,” Felix said.
    “Thanks.
By the way that joke was really cheesy!” Demona said.
    “I’ve
got many more of those!” Felix said. He rattled off a few more cheesy jokes.
    Demona,
Kaleb, and Hannah laughed hard. There was more trivial talk between the four of
them. They discussed books and movies and so much more. When their food was
delivered, Demona picked at her plate as she watched the other three eat. Soon,
Hannah and Kaleb returned to their own conversation.
    “So,
now tell me about you,” Demona said.
    “Okay…
I have a house just outside of town, with a roommate, my sister Rowena. I see
my parents occasionally. They retired and moved to Florida. We try to visit one
another as often as possible. That’s how I met Kaleb. His parents are my
parents’ neighbor. Oh, and I have a cat named Balthazar,” Felix said.
    “It
sounds nice.”
    “It
is. So, are you in a relationship?”
    “I
wouldn’t be here if I was.”
    “I
figured, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. I’d like to see you again.”
    “I’d
like that,” I’m going to regret this, but
there’s something genuine about him. “Would you be okay with going for a
walk?”
    “That
sounds great! It will give us a chance to get to know each other.”
    “There’s
a park near my apartment. I love walking there, but haven’t had a chance to in
a while. Would you mind meeting me tomorrow?”
    “I’ll
be there!”

    Chapter 7
    A Walk

    Demona
woke up to a bright cloudless day. She stretched in bed and tossed the covers
off of her body. Felix . A smile
spread across her face as she thought about his dreamy eyes . She hopped out of bed and dashed to her closet. She searched
through it several times, and found nothing suitable to wear. There is only one solution. She threw on
the first clothes she came across in the closet and grabbed her things. As
Demona made her way to the parking lot Hannah was on her way in.
    Hannah
wore a bright yellow sundress with a soft white sweater loosely over her
shoulders. Sometimes Hannah just looked too innocent to Demona.
    “Hi!”
Hannah said.
    “I’m
glad I ran into you! Are you busy?” Demona asked.
    “No,
just on my way back from church,” Hannah said.
    “Good,
I desperately need your help!”
    “Sure,
what’s up?”
    “I
have a date with Felix and I have nothing to wear. I was just headed to the
mall. I could really use a second opinion. It’s been forever since I went
shopping.”
    “This
will be fun! But you have to fill me in on how you know him.”
    Demona
grabbed Hannah’s hand and pulled her towards the car. Awhile later they arrived
at the mall and found their way into one of the several department stores.
Hannah helped Demona pick out a few outfits to try on and waited outside the
dressing room, while Demona tried them on. Demona was having a difficult time
finding something that was good enough for her date with Felix.
    “So,
how do you know Felix?” Hannah asked.
    “Honestly,
I don’t know him well. I helped save him,” Demona said.
    Hannah
laughed. “You are kidding right?”
    “No,
seriously,” Demona said.
    “Wow,
sounds like a great way to start off a romance!”
    Demona
came out of the dressing room wearing a cute dark green sweater dress. “What do
you think?” She spun to show Hannah how it looked.
    “Perfect.”
    Demona
went back into the dressing room to change into her clothes. “Oh!
