turned towards Amy. âDid someone give you something to carry on board?â
Amyâs heart sank. Mum had warned her NEVER to carry anything on board for a stranger. And sheâd forgotten. â The e disc. At Changi Airport.â
âWhere is it now?â
âHere, in my bag. â Amy pulled out Edwina, and the disc was underneath. âWe could play it on a portable player if anyone has one. But you couldnât fit anything like orchids inside. Itâs much thinner than Sebastianâs cassette.â
âSeeds fit in small places.â warned Gloria. âDonât ever accept anything to carry on board. Donât become a courier of illegal goods, even by mistake.â
Gloria examined the disc. It was dark in the cabin now so she switched the light button on Amyâs seat. A beam of light hit the disc.
âWhat about the business card? The one for the radio station?â suggested Christopher turning over the original card. That was the only clue they had.
Just then, an attendant stopped beside Gloria with a message. âExcuse me, youâre needed up front. A radio message.â
âIâll be back later. Theyâll be turning on the lights soon, so settle down and get some sleep.â
Amy couldnât sleep. She felt miserable. She knew she shouldnât have taken the disk but she didnât have a choice. He just pushed it at her. But she could have told someone like Gloria, earlier.
âCheer up,â whispered Christopher. âIt was my fault too.â
âYes, it was. A dumb thing for you two to do.â Winston just had to have the last word.
âShut up, you Fruitcake!â muttered the twins. Winston decided to return then to his proper seat but he went the long way around. Amy watched him go up the aisle past Fifi and that gave her an idea. She slipped out of her seat and tapped Fifi on the shoulder.
âExcuse me....â
âYes darlingk.â Fifi turned.
âWould you have a portable player in your hand luggage?â
In her hurry, Gloria had left the e disk behind.
âOf course darlingk.â
âWould you mind if I borrowed it to check something? Iâll only play it while weâre cruising. And Iâll return it before we start to descend.ââ
âHelp yourself darlingk. Iâm going to have a snooze.â
âThank you.â
Amy took the player back to Christopher. It was time for the sleuthing twins to act.
Later, Gloria confirmed the twinsâ findings. They turned the sound down, so other passengers couldnât hear.
âYes. Itâs a master disc which can be copied by pirates. Well done twins.â Gloria looked pleased.
âNow all weâve got to find out, is who it was intended for?â
âIt is more than just music?â asked Amy.
âYes.â
âIt is the Slipper Orchid pop group, isnât it?â asked Christopher.
âYes, but itâs more than just one song. Itâs the entire soundtrack of their new film âSlipper Orchidsâ which hasnât been released overseas yet. Itâs worth millions to thieves who want to sell copies illegally. Describe the man who gave it to you.â
Amy tried, but it had been so fast. âHe looked sort of ordinary. Average height. Ordinary voice.
Christopher, youâre the artist. You draw him .â
âI hardly saw him, except later when he was running.â Christopher flicked on his overhead light and pulled out his sketch pad. âBut I did take a photo of him, from behind with my old camera. Not the digital one. Iâve got the film here. Iâve just finished it.â He felt in his pocket and brought out a film.
Gloria took it.â Weâll get that developed for you. Why do you think he gave the e disc to you?â
âI donât know. Iâve never seen him before in my life!â Amy replied.
âDâyou think it was something to do with
