man or if she just didn’t want to have his shorty. Either way, he hated her for it. The thought of his seed being killed intentionally was against all of his beliefs, and from that point, he decided that Nautica would be nothing more than a jump-off to him.
“You don’t come on until the beginning of the month,” he said as he tried to unbutton her pants. “Stop playing.”
Nautica squirmed away and moved his hands. “Baby, I’m serious. My cycle has been all mixed up lately since I’ve been taking birth control,” she said, hoping he would buy the story.
Zion frowned. “What the fuck you mean, birth control?”
“I went to the doctor last month to get some. You know how you don’t like to use condoms, Zion. I am not trying to have a baby right now.” Nautica crossed her arms and hugged her midsection tight.
Zion had been intentionally trying to get her pregnant the past three months, so that he could put handcuffs on her. So that’s why she hasn’t gotten pregnant until just now. She must’ve forgotten to take them when her ass got knocked up. I thought my shit wasn’t working or something. Grimy-ass ho! He looked at Nautica in disgust. “A little blood won’t hurt. If I’d walk through mud, I’ll fuck through blood.” He dropped his boxers, exposing his erection.
Nautica didn’t want to refuse him. He had the same look in his eyes that he had at the club when he choked her. So she just lay there while he had his twisted way with her. Tears slid down her cheek as he went in and out of her. At that moment, Nautica decided to set Zion up. This is the last time he’s going to hurt me, she thought as tears continued to flow.
“Nooo! Oh my God! Quaye!” Khia screamed as she cradled Quaye in her arms. Blood leaked from his head and was all over the place. His stared into space, barely breathing. “Baby, no!” she yelled, looking into his eyes.
After getting out of the shower, she’d found him in their bed shot, and immediately called 9-1-1 to their home.
Khia’s breaths became shallow. She gripped Quaye, knowing that things didn’t look too good. “Come on, baby, just hang on for a minute until the ambulance gets here,” she said, trying to sound as calm as she could.
As the blood from the gunshot wound continued to flow onto her and the floor, Quaye twitched. He looked into Khia’s eyes, knowing that he was about to leave the earth.
She took his hand and placed it on her stomach. “You’re going to be a daddy. You can’t die,” she whimpered, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
Quaye tried to fix his mouth to smile, but the pain was much too much to bear. He glanced down at her stomach and then back into her eyes. “I . . . I love you,” he said in a whisper. Then he gave up the fight.
“Nooo!” Khia yelled, Quaye’s dead body in her arms.

MÉNAGE À TROIS
    Chapter Seven
    One Month Later

Nautica sat in the vanity mirror in her room and slowly stroked her hair. She was nervous as hell as she looked down at the “special k” pills, a nickname for the drug ketamine, which causes blackouts and temporary comas. Doctors use ketamine for patients undergoing surgery. She and Khia had been putting a plan together, and Khia had gotten the pill from a friend that worked at a pharmacy. The pill resembled ecstasy and would be great for the job.
Nautica had told Zion she was down for a ménage à trois. And he was game. She had convinced him to let her go with him on the trip once again, telling him that it made sense to leave for Baltimore from the hotel room morning after the ménage. He always left Flint at or around 6:00 A.M. , to make it to Baltimore by the afternoon, so Nautica knew he would have the money already bagged up and ready to go to, as he always did before every trip.
Nautica was waiting for Khia to call her so they could go over the caper one last time before they made it to the hotel room. She began to wonder if Khia was mentally ready to go through with the
