so I take walk.”
    He’s lying .
I start at the sound of the voice in my head. That is definitely not my voice. It’s the one from earlier today.
    Calm down .
Oh, damn, there it is again.
    “Miss?”
    Don’t trust him .
“You as white as a sheet. What is wrong?”
What’s wrong? Besides the fact I’ve lost my mind and am hearing voices? I’m just peachy.
    “I’m fine.”
“No, you are no fine,” he snaps. “You are injured.” He points to my bloody knees.
I frown at the accusation in his tone. It’s as if my getting hurt has offended him. Well, excuse me for falling.
    “I said I’m fine.”
A snort rolls through the air. “Come, I see you home. Is no safe out here alone.”
    Safer than with him .
This is so very not good. Schizophrenia. It has to be. There is no other explanation.
“Is getting late.” Impatience sharpens his tone. “You need to get home.”
My eyes narrow. There is something about this boy that grates on my last nerve. He’s gorgeous, mind you, but he’s also irritating beyond belief and very, very bossy.
“I can get home by myself, thank you very much.”
He reaches for my arm, and I slap his hand away. Slipping around him, I start walking. It only takes him a few strides to catch up to me.
“You going the wrong way,” he tells me.
I swing around and start walking the other way.
    “Are you always this stubborn?”
    “Are you always this arrogant?”
“Yes.” He nods. “I am always this arrogant.”
I burst out laughing. I can’t help it. It’s such an outrageous statement, but he says it so matter-of-factly. At least he admits his flaws.
“How did you know we were going the wrong way?” I ask after a while. There’s no way he could know that.
“We live in the same student housing complex. I see you earlier unloading your things.”
    “Oh.”
Great, just great. He lives in the same building.
We walk in silence until we reach the entrance of the complex. My foot catches on a crack in the pavement and I stumble. He reaches out to steady me, and his scent invades my senses. He smells of the night, of dark things, and there is a spicy undertone I can’t identify. He smells familiar to me too. Not in the same way Micah does, but familiar just the same.
“Goodnight, munya ,” he whispers against my ear. Munya ? What did that mean?
I turn around to ask him, and his eyes are glowing again. I can drown in those eyes if I let myself. Honeysuckle and the smell of freshly mown grass fill me and I’m able to break away from his gaze. He chuckles, and before I can say anything, he’s gone, leaving me with scraped knees and voices in my head.
Mortified and bloody, I limp back to my apartment. What else can go wrong?

    Chapter Six

It’s been a week since my little impromptu adventure in the woods. Jason had been asleep when I came home, so he didn’t need to know about my wild run. It would only worry him, and he is taking enough of a chance letting me stay here.
The voice in my head has been quiet as well. Not a peep. Maybe I had just imagined it. I want to believe that, but I don’t think that’s the case. I can still remember the distinct sound, low and gravelly, but slightly familiar as well. It had warned me away from the guy from the diner. Why? Or is it my own paranoia making things up after hearing the weird conversation about him from Micah and the waitress?
I’ve been so upset I actually called and made an appointment to see one of the counselors at the university. School starts in a week, and I don’t want to be so freaked out I lose focus. I need to be able to at least appear calm. Even Jason noticed I’m jumpy. Which means I need to talk to someone.
Shoving my feet in my slippers, I yawn and head into the kitchen. I need food. Jason’s door is open, and it looks like he’s already gone. The fridge yields out of date milk and eggs I’m not too sure about. The grocery store is on the list for
