it’s rude, but it’s just what we do. I won’t share anything else with him. I mean, if there is anything else to share. I can respect the privacy thing.”
“I didn’t hear the sex talk.”
“Oh, well, I didn’t tell him that much.” He shrugged. “I was really confused after you went back to bed and I needed a sounding board.”
“I think it’s great you have Caden to talk to.”
That was one of the downfalls of being an only child. I had friends but after college we all went in different directions. Some were married, others were engaged and two were even pregnant. Life had gotten lonely this past year. Maybe I had distanced myself from my friends because I had been feeling sorry for myself. Their lives were moving forward and I seemed to be stuck.
“I heard what you said about me being different from the other women in your life.”
“That’s a good thing.” He pulled on my ponytail. “Trust me.”
“You told him you saw a future with me. With kids...”
“I was just kicking ideas around. I’m not looking to rush you. We’ve only known one another a few weeks. I’m not usually a planner. When it comes to women I don’t see long term. These past weeks have been a whirlwind for me. I never planned to have a kid much less a roommate. We’re spending so much time together and I like it. I’m sorry if I scared you away with what I said. Don’t panic.” His deep throaty laugh made me smile. “I’m not looking to have any more babies just yet.”
    Oh. There was that yet.
“It’s just that when I do plan on it, I could see it with you.” He shook his head. “I sound like a real creeper, don’t I?”
    “That’s my problem. The future...”
“You can’t see it with me?” He shook his head. “You know what, it doesn’t matter. We’ve known each other all of five minutes and as you can see there’s a reason I don’t do relationships. I’m not very good at it. I’m better at fucking and leaving.”
Now I’ve offended him and his big, sexy ego.
“I can’t have kids.” There, I said it. Now he knew. We could just go back to being employer and employee. Why are you looking at me like I said I killed your puppy? “It’s no big deal. I just wanted you to know. If you insist that I stay on as Mason’s nanny I needed you to know. You have to stop planning some grand future with us and three kids. You know?”
“It is a big deal and I’ll do no such thing.”
    “What?”
“If I want to have kids with you I will.”
“Didn’t you hear what I said?”
    “Every word.”

How was it fair that someone like Aimee could have a baby and Jenna couldn’t? Not that Aimee didn’t deserve to have kids but she had a shitty way of proving she could be a mom.
“It’s no big deal. I just wanted you to know. If you insist that I stay on as Mason’s nanny I needed you to know. You have to stop planning some grand future with us and three kids. You know?”
It’s more like four or five kids in my latest fantasy.
What did she mean it wasn’t a big deal? And she wanted to leave me and Mason because she thought I’d care that she couldn’t have kids? I realize I had a reputation when it came to women, but maybe I needed to start cleaning up my image. How shallow did she think I was?
“It is a big deal and I’ll do no such thing.” When I was determined I went for it. I didn’t become a billionaire at my age because I listened to the word no. The trick was to keep trying. No matter how many doors got slammed in my face or how many times investors twice my age laughed that I was too young to achieve my ambitions I kept going until I found people who said yes.
    “What?”
“If I want to have kids with you I will.” What was it about this woman that made me keep professing I wanted to start my own soccer team? I didn’t know her situation but I knew there was a shit ton of technology out there. Hell, she wanted to be a doctor. She had to know it
