She couldn’t stand the tantalizing look in his eyes.
“Don’t worry, I promise I’ll be gentle...” Calder smirked.

Chapter Two
N o way! I’m already lying on his sheets and we just met. She blushed when Calder stood over Jessie as she lay back on the bed. Calder’s heavy footsteps sent creaks through the floor.
“Lie back,” he commanded, tensing his jaw and concentrating his scowl hard on her thighs.
    Jessie gulped.
“Give me your leg...” Calder lifted her ankle and rolled up her pant leg. When he touched her, Jessie thought she’d break out in bright red itchy hives.
God, don’t look at my cankles. Please not my cankles...
Jessie felt her skin prickle when Calder caressed it with his rough warm hands. Her heart beat so fast, she thought she could feel it clogging up her throat. Jessie tried to say something, but kept feeling herself choking on the words.
“You own this place?” She finally got out.
“I inherited it.” Calder grunted in his low husky voice. “When my mother got sick, I dropped out of med school to give her a hand. Never thought I’d come back to Bayside, but family means everything to me.”
Jessie bit her lower lip when Calder’s powerful grip deeply massaged her aching calves. She felt foolish for getting so worked up over a guy. But... look at him! If she wasn’t trying so hard to be a lady, she would have already spread-eagled her thighs.
    Real talk.
“Looks like you might need a hand with that old house. A local contractor here in Bayside, owes me a favor. I can swing by with some cans of paint and a few odd brushes and have that place looking brand spanking new again.”
He leaned in really close. So close, Jessie heard a rumble in his throat—like that of a satisfied cat.
    And Jessie flinched.
    Huh?
“Calder!” a woman’s voice called. “Got some more beers for the bonfire later tonight, I’m not gonna let you chicken out this time...”
A blonde haired minx strutted into the room with icy blue eyes. She had that perfect “cool girl” I-just-woke-up-this-way look about her as he brushed her tousled hair to her side. When she turned to Jessie, she scowled like she’d rather see her bleeding to death in a dark alley than in Calder’s arms.
    “Oh, hey Nisha, this is—”
Then came that awkward moment where Jessie realized she hadn’t even told Calder her name.
“Jessica Rigg, but I go by Jessie.”
Nisha nodded still sneering at her. “...right.”
Then she sniffed the air and crossed her arms with a spiteful toss of her hair. It’s obvious she didn’t like Jessie. At all.
“Since you’re new in town, Jessie. You should come too. The locals here have this bonfire kinda like a tradition. Your friend is welcome too.”
Calder stared at her so calmly it’s like he could read my thoughts. Nisha, on the other hand, rolled her eyes.
The old Jessie would have said nuh-uh. Nope. No parties pour moi . But I didn’t know anyone, and Maisie would hate me for refusing free alcohol.
But it wasn’t really going to be that bad right ? What’s the worst that could happen?

Chapter Three
    ––––––––
J essica’s trembling fingers kept fiddling with the bottom hem of her summer dress. The last thing she wanted was for Calder to ogle her stretch marks.
“ Jesus !” Maisie muttered underneath her breath. “Is every guy like a super model here?”
Yeah, no kidding. Jessie thought. Night had fallen over the beach and loud music played up ahead. She could see the glow of a burning fire in the near distance. Every guy that passed us had ripped abs and powerful burly bodies. Like pure beefcake. They hadn’t ever seen anything like it.
It only made Jessie feel more self-conscious about her rolly-poly physique. With oh-so perfect women like Nisha flocking around, Calder would never see anything in me.
“You two lost?” a low dark voice hollered from behind them.
“ Holy cow! Are these dudes for real?” Maisie blurted, nudging Jessie in
