the tattooed girl. “And Trish, too. Sorry, Trish, your friend's name…?”
Trish smirks and slides an arm around her boy like she owns him. “This is Alejandro.” She's got a thick British accent, and her words are slightly slurred. Yup. Definitely been drinking for a while. “We met at the last shoot.”
Neveah or Nina, I can't remember, lets out a giggle and holds out her hand to her sister. “Told you he was another model. You owe me.”
Trish lets go of her boy toy and drains her drink. “Stop placing bets on my love life, ya twats.”
She turns to Alejandro and sloppily kisses him. They start full on making out, and I avert my eyes in embarrassment. But then the kiss is thankfully over, and Trish is shooting Double N a reproachful glare. Alejandro's sipping his drink, looking like he wants to escape.
With a start, I realize I recognize all these girls. They were a lot younger, and Trish wasn't covered in tattoos, but I've seen them. When Kaidan was taking me up to his penthouse after the HIT awards and I used his phone. I saw a picture of him with some friends on a sailboat. It was these friends. And the girl who looked creepily like me.
Kaidan makes a little more small talk as I covertly glance at the other group for a blonde like me. Nope. Not here. Not sure why I'm so relieved about that, but I am. Char name-drops her mother, and then I realize they're all looking at me.
“Sorry, what?” No way to play off how dumb I look.
Trish leans forward. “What do you do? We were just talking about how I'm a make-up artist, and Neveah and Nina own the Janus salons.”
“Oh, I just graduated, so… I'm still in the planning stages of my career,” I lie. The only thing I'm planning on doing is downing a couple drinks to deal with this awkwardness.
The twins exchange judgy looks, and then Kaidan is sweeping us away to the next group of friends. I eyeball the bar, hoping he takes the hint, but he seems so excited to show me off. That makes me feel all warm and bubbly inside, but wine would make it even better. Socializing with my boyfriend's old friends can only get easier with alcohol.
The next group consists of two men and two women. They're all well-dressed, like Kaidan is. I think I recognize the men from the picture. Kaidan introduces the women as a girlfriend and fiancée and says they didn't go to school with him.
The way they look at me, mouths smiling, eyes judging… I just know they're sizing me up to see if I'm good enough for Kaidan. Maybe I'm imagining it, but it makes sense. I mean I made a fool of myself last week. Hell, I've made a fool of myself every week lately. Are they comparing me with the girl from that picture? Did Kaidan date her, too? Everyone here probably knows her.
God, my brain needs to shut the eff up.
We all nod and smile through the introductions, and I try to remember all the names, but they slip away. Char name-drops her mom yet again, and the conversation drifts to Diane's roles and her many awards. These people seem way more interested in Char than in me. Good.
Kaidan hasn't once, not once, name-dropped my dad or my mom. And I love him for it.
One of the guys leaves to get another drink, and Kaidan looks at Char and me with a brief expression of embarrassment. “Sorry, ladies. Where are my manners? What are you two having?”
“I'll have a pinot noir,” Char says. “Thanks.”
    He looks at me. “Usual?”
“I liked that drink you made me in your penthouse.”
Kaidan gives me a brief kiss, in front of everyone, then heads to the bar. I enjoy my warm fuzzies as Char continues talking. Kaidan quickly returns with our drinks, and I blissfully sip my way to buzzville.
Neveah and Nina have drifted over to our group, and when a few more people come in, and I get introduced, I recognize the last names of both a prominent politician and a famous basketball player from the 90s. All these kids could name-drop their parents, I'd guess, but Char's the only one insisting
