picked up her panties and slipped them over her feet and up her legs. She lifted her hips as he slid them over her butt. Then he grabbed her shorts and scooped her up from the chair.
    “Where we going?” she asked.
“You’re going to bed,” he said matter-of-factly as he carried her across the lanai and into the house. “Then I’m going to trash this condom some place where your brother can’t find it.”
“They’ll be home soon.” Hailey snuggled against his chest, the afterglow of her orgasm dampening any concern about being caught by the others. “Too bad.”
    “Yeah.”
He put her in bed and tucked the covers around her then disappeared. She heard her toilet flush. A few seconds later, his fingers brushed her cheek. She opened her eyes.
“You sure you’re okay?” he asked.
“I’d be better if you could stay with me,” she murmured.
    “Me too.”
She smiled, reached for the hand caressing her cheek and tucked it to her chest.
“God, you’re beautiful,” he said, his voice rough with emotion.
“Not as beautiful as you,” she answered sleepily.
His lips grazed hers as he whispered, “I’m not even in the same league.”
She tried to argue, but moving her lips required too much effort.
As she drifted to sleep, she hoped Mark wouldn’t be upset that they’d started without him.

Chapter Five

Hailey’s empty stomach woke her a little after midnight. The house was quiet, and she wondered if everyone was in bed or out partying. She found her shorts where Tony had left them on a chair in the corner of the room and quickly put them on.
Moonlight streaming through the great room doors lit her way to the kitchen. She grabbed a small apple banana from the granite countertop, a yogurt from the fridge and a spoon and took them out to the lanai. She stood at the railing overlooking the pool and, further out, the ocean.
Catty-corner to her left was the guest cottage. The blinds were closed, but she could see it was dark inside. That answered the question about where everyone was. If they’d been out, the blinds would be open.
The breeze teased her hair and her skin. The warm night enfolded her. A soul-deep contentment spread through her. She put the banana on a small table next to the railing while she ate her yogurt and listened to the surf ebbing and flowing, over and over, its rhythm lulling her.
She was tempted to go crawl in bed with Tony.
Or Mark. She wondered who was sleeping in the bed and who had gotten stuck with the futon.
She put the empty yogurt container and spoon on the table and picked up the banana. She’d just peeled one strip of skin away when the cottage’s sliding glass door opened and a silhouette stepped outside, wearing nothing but dark boxer briefs. Her breath caught as he left the door open and took a few steps toward a chair by the pool. She could tell by the way he moved it was Mark.
He stopped and, as if sensing her, looked up at the lanai. Reality hit her like a tsunami. She’d had sex with his best friend this afternoon, less than twelve hours ago. If she joined Mark now, she’d be initiating sex with him, with Tony’s scent still on her skin. That was what he was waiting for. Her decision. She knew it as clearly as if he’d spoken the words aloud.
She couldn’t help but answer. The uneaten banana joined the empty yogurt container. As quickly and quietly as possible, she moved through the house to the stairs at the back of the great room, down the stairs and out the game room to the pool deck. When she got close enough, he reached for her hand and led her to a lounge chair. He sat down and drew her into the V between his legs. His erection pressed insistently through the thin jersey cotton of his briefs, its heat branding one cheek through her shorts. Her back rested against his chest and abs, and his arms wrapped around her waist.
They sat like that for a while until Hailey spoke in a low voice. “You’re up late.”
    “Can’t sleep. Tony
