commit it to memory. With each kiss I place on your soft skin, know that it will be my mark of adoration, branding your skin in an invisible tie to me.” He nibbled along her jawline, as she fought hard not to beg him to fuck her right then.
“Open your legs wider. I have to get closer. I crave you—your warmth and touch,” he said, moving to stand between her ample thighs as she sat on the counter.
She obeyed, enjoying how he wrapped strong arms around her and tugged her into him. This side of Owain was what she’d been needing. He made her feel safe; not some bed or house. It was him. Celia wanted to tell him everything. In that moment, she wanted him to understand everything she faced and know who she was.
He pushed the jacket she wore off and onto the kitchen floor. She didn’t care, as long as it gave her more access to him. His skin was smooth and warm—hot even.
“I want to tell you something before we go any farther,” she said, not believing what she was about to say.
“Please do. Anything you have to say is important to me.”
The smile that wore her face hurt, it was so big.
“Okay here goes… my last name is Thomas. My name is Celia Thomas.”
He smiled another paralyzingly awesome smile that appeared custom-made for her. “Thank you for that. I know it must be hard sharing parts of yourself when you don’t know who to trust.” He gathered her hands into his rather large ones and said, “I’ll do everything in my power to protect you and whatever secrets you believe you need to keep to survive. Even if I don’t know everything about you, I know what I need to in here.” He motioned to his heart, continuing to hold her hands in his. “Do you understand what I’m saying?”
She nodded. He kissed her forehead and hugged her tight. When he released her to look back into her eyes, she couldn’t contain herself any longer.
Celia blurted out, “I’m from Chicago and am on the run from a powerful so-called witch named Deidra Amos. She and her coven have been hunting me since I exposed some of their shadier dealings. I did it when she tried to shame my mother and aunts into saying she was the strongest witch around. I don’t believe any of them are witches, but this hurt my mother and aunts, so I used what I knew to expose her.” Celia was forced to pause to take in a fresh breath.
“Is that all?” he asked, calm as the day was long.
“Actually no. I really messed it up for my family. I just couldn’t let well enough alone. I had to have her medical records hacked and proved that she’s got a STD. The one that’s not HIV but stays with you for the rest of your life. She was publicly humiliated by this.”
“How so? What did you do?”
“I sort of posted it on the screens at the neighborhood bar.”
    “Eww, that had to hurt.”
“Yeah, guys started coming out of the woodwork saying they were going to sue her, if they had contracted what she had. It was a big mess and she stopped coming around. I got what I wanted—for her to stop coming around, but at a huge price—the safety and welfare of my entire family.”
“How is that? Did she threaten them?”
“Not directly, but Deidra Amos owns most of the construction, truck hauling and wreckage firms in the area. The men in my family had worked for those firms. That was until I opened my big mouth and screwed up everything. Now Deidra has single-handedly crushed us financially. And there’s no end in sight. The bitch has black balled my family and most of them think she’s cursed them as well.” Celia still had her doubts about the existence of witches, but weird happenings did seem to occur more often in her family.
“Why would your family believe that?”
“When my family had refused to give me up to Deidra and her posse of Orange is the New Black rejects, unexplainable things started to happen—things I still can’t get my head around.”
“This is getting more and more interesting. Care to share some
