himself in the eyes.
âHey, sweetie, there you are!â It was Jewel. âCome on, the whole tribe is gathering for sunset.â
âWait, wait! You know, we saw Linda and Tulio today!â he told her, holding up the GPS. âAnd I just found the location of their camp! We have to go get them and bring them here!â
Jewel didnât look so sure. âI donât know, Blu.â
What did she mean, she didnât know? he wondered.
âWhatâs to know? That was our plan all along, right? To help them find this place,â Blu reminded her.
âMaybe some places shouldnât be found,â Jewel told him. âMaybe they should just be left alone.â
Blu looked at her, not sure where she was going with this. The mosquito began to buzz again. Bluâs head bobbed and his eyes crossed as he tried to follow it.
Jewel found it first. She snagged it right out of the air and gulped it down.
Blu stared, aghast. What had gotten into her? Jewel was taking this wild thing a little too far.
Â
Blu was freaking out to his friends. âShe ate a bug!â he exclaimed to Rafael later that night. âA bug!â
âBlu, Blu, Blu. Calm down,â his friend urged.
Blu paced back and forth. âOh! Oh! And her father? Total nut job. Heâs got this weird thing about humans. . . .â
Â
In another part of the macaw village, Eduardo was venting to Aunt Mimi. âHeâs got this weird thing about humans!â Eduardo said, shaking his head.
âI like him,â Aunt Mimi declared. âAnd so does Jewel.â
Eduardo wasnât having it. âHow can he protect her? Heâs not strong enough.â
Aunt Mimi sighed. âEduardo, give him a chance.â
âA chance?â Eduardo repeated, incredulous. âHow can I trust a bird thatâs a pet? He is a liability and he doesnât belong here.â
Â
Blu continued to panic. âI donât even belong here,â he said, animatedly throwing up his wings. âI thought we were going on a little vacation. Weâd help Linda and Tulio find the flock and then head home.â
Â
âIâm not even sure heâs a bird,â Eduardo ranted, only half joking.
âBut he makes our Jewel really happy,â Aunt Mimi pointed out.
Eduardo knew it was true. But still . . . âI just donât want anything to happen to her. Mimi, Iââ
Â
âI canât lose her!â Blu cried.
Rafael did his best to calm him down. âSheâs wild about you, Blu. But sheâs also wild about the wild.â
âWhich means, you gotta go native!â Pedro announced.
âYeah, you gotta bird up!â Nico encouraged him.
Blu was confused. âBird up?â What did that even mean?
Nico tried to explain. âYou gotta give yourself over to this place, man. See it like she sees it!â
âFeel the rhythms she feels,â Pedro said.
âTaste the flavors sheâs tastinâ!â Nico added.
Blu thought for a moment. âSo I should . . . eat a bug?â
Nico and Pedro recoiled in horror. âUh, no,â Pedro said quickly. âThatâs just nasty.â
Just then Carla arrived. She hurried over to them. âGuys, what are you doing? Weâve gotta get ready for tomorrow. Come on! Chop-chop!â
Pedro gave her an appraising stare. âWow, she puts the business in show business.â
âDad, youâre coming to the show tomorrow night, right?â Carla asked Blu. âItâs gonna be awesome!â
Blu nodded. âYeah, sure, wouldnât miss it!â
Carla smiled. âGreat. Now, no offense, but we need the stage.â
âYou got it,â Blu told her. As he left, he accidentally bumped into someone. Nigel.
âOh, sorry,â the cockatoo said, distracted.
âSorry. Sorry,â Blu replied.
âExcuse me.â Nigel pushed past him, hurrying to
