shrugs and he smiles at her.
He waves us both to sit across from him. “What can I do for you two?” Getting right down to business.
“Dad, I came to explain my recent scandal.” He doesn’t say a word, which serves to spike my nerves tenfold. Nothing is worse than a quiet Paul Cresley.
“I wanted to make money on my own and being the stupid, immature, boy that I was, I fell into Plunge.xxx . At the time, it didn’t seem like I was doing anything wrong. I purposely kept my face out of every shot for my privacy and to uphold our reputation. I didn’t know that Carly took that shot of me. She’s mad that I ended our business relationship and so she lashed out by posting a video that I did not approve.”
Dad looks back and forth between the two of us. “You’re okay with his actions? I don’t take you as someone who would be okay with this, Sam.”
“I don’t like the fact that this is how he chose to make money, but I have a past, too. The difference is that I didn’t post it for the world to see. Although it doesn’t make me happy, I won’t hold him accountable for something that he did prior to our relationship.”
He grimaces. “He made pornography, Sam. It’s disgraceful.”
“While I agree that it wasn’t the best option, I’m thankful that he chose to work with one partner, not many. I forgive his lack of judgment.”
He’s silent, so I decide to speak. “Dad, I’m not proud, but the damage has been done. My name is out there, and I did disgrace you. I want to make it up by turning my life around and contributing to society with a proper job.”
“I’ll contact my attorneys, and have them draw up legal action against Ms. Wise. They will also contact the web host for Plunge.xxx and have them remove all of your videos from Carley’s archive folder. The damage has been done, but perhaps we can work together to bury this,” my dad replies.
A small sense of relief comes over me. I want all traces of Plunge.xxx gone. I want to move on with my life, with Sam. I don’t want to be an embarrassment to her or our future children. Assuming she wants that.
“Thank you, Dad. I’m so sorry I disappointed you.”
He looks at me closely. “I can tell you regret it, son. We’ll work to get past this. I can’t claim I didn’t do stupid things when I was young. I bet your mother is rolling over in her grave right now.”
I cringe at the mention of Mom.
“There’s still a job here for you, but until this blows over you need to start in the marketing department. You’ll work your way up to management.” I smile, knowing that means I’ll be working closely with my girl, and she’ll be able to keep her position.
“Thank you, sir,” Sam answers, and I repeat.
“Get him set up, Sam. He starts Monday, and he’ll need a cubicle. Just don’t put him next to yours. I need you two to get work done, and from the way he looks at you, I can tell you’d only be a distraction.” He smiles, and she nods.
We stand and walk towards the door before my father says, “You two look good together. I’m glad you found each other. How exactly did that happen?”
Sam looks at me with wide eyes. I look down at her and smile. “We crossed paths again at a restaurant the same day I met her here in this office.”
Epilogue -Adam
I stand at the front looking out into the crowd of people. Most of the faces looking back are business associates, but our friends and family are intermingled in the crowd. I watch as her sisters walk towards me, their smiles showing how happy they are to be a part of this day.
I find my father seated in the front row. He nods in my direction, a smile lighting his face. He loves Samantha and was so pleased when I told him I’d be asking her to marry me.
Today is the day I finally make her my wife.
Seeing the happiness on his face, I miss the part where my fiancé makes her debut. The silence causes me to look up and the sight in front of me takes my breath away. Samantha
